This was it. All I had to do was block this last kick and I would be team captain. I've been waiting since last year and I'm not planning on letting one kick knock me off of my chance to be captain.…
The news spread like a wildfire. Cheer tryouts were the next event on the school calendar and the girls at school were feeling like a nervous wreck. With a new coach, and new spots open for the cheer squad; it was every young girl’s dream to be a cheerleader. The cheerleaders have always been the girls who have led the school in spirit, positivity, and good morals. Who would not want to spread good vibes to everyone? Cheerleading was a dream to me. I have always been a preppy person and cheerleading was just the sport to support it. When sign ups were announced, I was not hesant to sign my name on the list. The thought of cheer excited me, so of course I found a way to join.…
“Cheer is your pulse, heartbeat, your breathing. It’s rhythm of your life. It’s the expression and movement, in happiness, joy, sadness and envy.” –Jaques D’Amboise. Every since I was a little child, I would be astonished and mesmerized by how cheerleaders could captivate your attention on their movements. One simple technique could keep you wondering all night. Questions you would ask yourself would be; how did she do that or how much practice did it take her just to perfect that one single move? I’ve had this urge, ever since I was 4 years old, to be able to entertain thousands of millions of people on the competition dance floor. I’ve always thought that life is about leaving your mark in the world. I feel that…
To the game that changed my life, thank you. I remember the day that you found me, in a store full of strings and cleats. You helped me pick out a gray and pink stick with pink goggles and a mouth guard. On that day in 2008 you strengthened me in one of the hardest times of my life, when my Dad was on the other side of the world fighting for our country. You have strengthened me multiple times since. You have continued to be the single most consistent aspect of my life my life. You have stood as my outlet, my friend, and my teacher. You have taught me, provided for me, and given me the most memorable of memories. Thank you for empowering me in torn up cleats and dirty uniforms. I don’t think I will ever be able to repay you.…
“5, 6, 7, 8, who do we appreciate? GOOOOO TEAM!!!” That’s a phrase I’ve said quite a few times in my life. As a cheerleader, I tend to say whatever I can to get the crowd pumped, even if we’re down by 30 points in the 4th quarter. Since six years old, I was the most energetic person out on the sidelines, cheering on my home team. I thought that my “cheer career” would last forever. So imagine my surprise when it abruptly came to an end. In the 10th grade, my mother made me quit the cheerleading team, due to a C on my report card, but this turn of events became the best thing that could ever happen to me.…
As my year comes to an end I can still remember the feeling when they called my name as Miss Berea outstanding teen, excitement and the overwhelming joy. As I began my journey I had many people on my team, Mr. Jimmy, Ms. Ashley and Ms. Brenda and of course my family! Together they all helped me prepare for state. When state arrived I was very honored to be representing Berea and I knew that I would not be here with the help of my pageant family. Mr. Jimmy thank you for always having an honest opinion with me and give me constructive criticisms when I needed it. Ms. Ashley thank you being my fashionesta and helping stay physical fit, with your help I knew when I stepped out on to the stage I looked my the best! Ms. Brenda without you I know I would not the young lady I am today, you helped me with my own self growth and when I thought I was getting overwhelmed and flustered you were always there telling me that it will all be okay. I can say I will miss those late night phone calls when I just needed to talk and you were always there to listen to me. To my pageant sister Allison, thank you for being my cheerleader when I was stressed and always saying I can do it. To my family, mom dad I cannot say how much I am thankful for you, dad you work so hard just so I can be where I am today and never once complain. Mom you have always been there for me through the thick and thin. You take me everywhere I need to go and never complain about even when I know it is hard for you. I want to say thank you both for always being so supportive of me in everything I do, you all are reason I am who I am today, without you I could not have achieved the things I have. I love you all so much. To my successor make as many memories as possible because you will cherish them all. To the contestants I wish you all the best of luck and remember this, you see all crowns are different, it’s really an art. Yours can be rhinestones, or the growth of your…

I can not wait to go watch you in the Bahamas, best of luck and love you all greatly. My amazing family and friends. Mom, dad, Ashley, AJ, Ashley, Katlyn, and Fammy (just to name a few) you all have shown so much love and support from the beginning of this journey. Many miles traveled together, late night talks, sleepovers, being state roomies, and so much more. I love you all very much and appreciate all that you have done for me. Best of luck Fammy and Ashley at Miss Louisiana USA. My Jimmie and future hubby. God knew just what he was doing when he placed us in the same English class our sophomore year in college. Thank you for treating my like a queen and agreeing to walk this journey I love along side of me, love you past the moon and stars. To the ladies competing tonight you are all very courageous and strong willed for simply being here. It takes a lot of self confidence to not only walk across a stage but to do so in a swimsuit. Only seven of you will go home with a title but all of you will go home with so much more. To the new royalty enjoy this title as much if not more than I did. Do what you are asked to do plus more. Best wishes at state, I will be there in the audience cheering for…
So as I was standing there and they announced my name for senior night, I looked at my teammates who were proud of me because I put in the effort to return to my team who had become my family. I looked at my family who was so proud for…

To my girls from Trafalgar… I have been talking about this night since my 17th birthday party. And throughout all of senior year, I would constantly bug and annoy all of you, asking and telling you to attend my debut. And here we are now, all of you looking as gorgeous as ever, reunited once again. Thank you for putting up with my constant reminders and questions about whether or not you could come tonight, and thank you for actually being here. Of all people, you girls know how hard it was for me to say goodbye to you and to Traf, so you can only imagine how much it…
