Cheerleading strengthens your endurance and keeps you in shape. Practices could be up to three hours long. During these practices, are the intense “full outs”. This is when you do the routine completely like you would perform on stage. There is the constant moving around, stunting, and tumbling with no rest that causes you to feel like you can not finish the routine. Tumbling and stunting (especially as a base) have a requirement of arm strength so you don’t fall on your head when doing a back handspring or let your flyer fall out of the air when you are holding them. You will feel the sweat all over you from pushing yourself through this routine and at the end all you want to do is lay down or get some water. Teamwork, just like on any other team is just as important in cheerleading. A flyer trusts her stunt group and depends on them to keep her in the air, just like the hitters depend on the setter to hit the ball over the net. It takes teamwork to hit all of the stunts on the mat. Without the encouragement of my teammates to finish a tumbling pass, I might end up busting. Without cooperation, we may never get through a practice without arguing. It takes more than just one person to hit a good routine.
