What is the definition of a sport? A sport is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team is competing against one another to win. The sport cheerleading contains a wide range of physical exertion including: tumbling, various jumps and tricks, stunting, and choreographic dances, thus resulting in needing great stamina. Another reason cheerleading is a sport is the preparation time involved, and the athletic scholarship opportunities competing as a cheerleader presents. Not to mention that cheerleading has the highest rate for injuries among sports. Many people argue that cheerleading is not a sport, clearly they don’t know what a sport is.

Worlds is the competition at the end of the cheer season where the best of the best teams get sent to compete for the gold medal. Winning the gold medal at Worlds is the same things as winning the Stanley Cup for NHL hockey players. The gold medal is every cheerleader’s goal, and if your team’s goal is having a gold medal on their chest then you're going to work for it. You’re going to practice on your own time, work out, eat healthy, and have no social life. When the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup do you think all of the work they put in was worth it? Of course it was. Everybody has their own dreams. A hockey player’s dream is to get drafted to the NHL, a football player’s dream is to get drafted to the NFL, a dancer's dream is to get invited to Juilliard. We, as cheerleaders dream to get a scholarship to an elite school, or become a big time cheerleader for the Argo, or TiCats. Many people argue that cheerleading is not a sport because we walk around in mini skirts and crop tops, have big hair with an even bigger bow in it, and wear dark makeup. That is a cheerleader’s equipment and uniform and how we play our sport! You don’t see professional male wrestlers getting judged for wearing skin tight body suits, because that is the uniform for their
