Blurb:
Welcome to your first course in college chemistry. In this course, we will be exploring laws, theories, and principles of chemistry as related to matter. Atomic structure and the periodicity of elements, stoichiometry of chemical formulas and reactions, gas laws and kinetic molecular theory, solutions and solubility, energy change in chemical reactions and thermochemistry, quantum theory and electron configuration, bonding theories and shapes of molecules, intermolecular forces of attraction and phase change, and acid-base theories, are some of these topics.
Required Material:
Text Book; Chemistry - A Molecular Approach, Nivaldo J. Tro; 3rd Edition, available in the Pierce Bookstore.
MasteringChemistry – Books purchased at the Pierce’s Bookstore includes the access code for mastering
Chemistry. If you buy your book elsewhere, then purchase it online from www.masteringchemistry.com
Lab Manual; Chemistry 101, General Chemistry I, Pierce College. 2nd Edition.
Lab Notebook; Chemistry (bound) laboratory notebook with carbonated sets of pages.
Eye protection – Required by State law. Must be worn in the lab at all times. The ones that fit all around the eyes, i.e., flush on the forehead, cheeks, and the nose, are recommended.
