Chevalier De Seingalt: A Literary Analysis
The reading and the lecture are both about the memoir written by Chevalier de Seingalt. The reading passage states that, although the memoir has become a historical reference, it is not accurate. However, the lecturer claims the memoir is reliable and refutes the three arguments presented by the author.

First of all, the article mentions that Chevalier was not wealthy, due to the fact he had to borrow large amounts of money. The lecturer opposes by saying that Chevalier indeed borrowed money, but it does not mean he was poor. He had lots of assets, and it took some time to convert these assets in money. While he waited to sell some of his assets, he borrowed money in order to gamble and to party.

Secondly, the reading passage states that

The author’s analysis on the documents that are presented in the text about Captain John Smith changed my mind on how historical documents need to be analyzed. The author talks about how Captain John Smith wrote down all of his observations in 3rd person which makes it very confusing as a reader to analyze what he is trying to say especially with the archaic dialect of the time. I agree with the author’s analysis of the documents and I also agree with him because after reading the historical document myself I was rather confused about the events that occurred in the historical…

In the article Grele projected a strong and effective argument with the usage of quotes and how others felt about the relevance of oral history. The importance of having quotes and other people’s thoughts is to have an argument that is not just their opinion. It shows that Grele has taken what other scholars argues previously, and based his argument on what they stated. When he uses other people's thoughts and words it shows that he has some background information on the topic. Having background is imperative when making an argument because without it, the person is just stating their uneducated opinion. In the article when he uses the quotes and thoughts, it gives the reader the impression that Grele has done his research before forming his thoughts. He used an interview from professors Cantor and Garraty, to show that even the…

First, the reading claims that The committe concluded that Peary's accounts were consistent and persuasive. In contrast, the professor refutes this pint by saying that it's true that the committe declaired that, but the committe was not objective. He said that the committe was composed of Peary's friends who contributed money to fund Peary's trip. In addition, it did not take the committe more than two days, so their conclusion is not trustworthy.…

When putting words to paper, each person has their own creative method. This rings especially true when writing about history. With the seemingly endless supply of information and accounts, no two readings or viewings will contain the same exact information or viewpoint. Deciding which resource to agree with or more importantly to relate too often times prove difficult, as simply reading the information without further deliberation as to the authenticity may lead one down an incomplete path. This paper will discuss in large part the differences of two particular passages and which of the two I found most persuasive.…

MARRIAGE: This marriage joined two individuals with different ambitions and personality. The palace was a lone place for Antoinette (Fraser, 2001). Louis left Antoinette in the palace alone and she could do what she wanted. Apparently, she began spending colossal sums of money as a way of amusement on unnecessary things and luxuries. She went on gambling with the money losing millions in a game. Being left alone in the palace may have prompted her into compulsive shopping and spending. However, it can be perceived otherwise when her mother claims that Antoinette was not doing anything useful at Versailles. We could easily tell that this was the nature of Antoinette's character and personality. She only lacked the opportunity so to speak; thus be termed as a self-absorbed spendthrift.…

Having a government which makes impartial decisions that prioritize the best interests of all the residents in the area is extremely important as this ensures peace, prosperity, and unity among the people. Complete power and authority must not be in the hands of any one person; specialization of labor and a system of checks in the government is necessary to ensure a lack of corruption and optimum decision-making. Imagine a world where one is stripped of the opportunity to make one’s voice heard, and that they are given no say in contributing to decisions which directly affect them. The situation in Lord of the Flies is very similar to this scenario. The boys’ system of governing, right from the moment of their stranding in the island till the…
