Gum is in a ring structure made up of Oxygen, Carbon, Hydrogen. A gum base puts the “chew” in all chewing gums, by providing a smooth, soft texture. Chewing gum comes in pieces and many various colors depending on the flavors. Gum is made to be chewed, not eaten like other candies. Gum is not soluble in water. The gum base cannot be chemically broken down. Only things that are soluble are flavor, food coloring than the base could not be dissolved. Gum was invented by Walter E. Diemer in the 1920s. He was only 23 years old when he invented gum. Walter did not mean to create chewing gum. Today, Cinnamon, spearmint, and peppermint are the most popular flavors of gum.
