Chicken Wings Similarities
Yes, chicken wings have many similarities to human arms. Some similar parts are the bones, the muscles, and the tendons.

For example, the bones on a chicken have a similar structure to the bones on a human arm. From the dissection and a picture that I looked at, I observed that in a chicken wing there is a humerus bone, a radius bone, and an Ulna bone. A human arm has these same bones.

Additionally, the muscles in a chicken wing are comparable to muscles in a human arm. From an image that I looked at I saw that both the wing and arm have an extensor muscle and a flexor muscle. They both have the same purpose which is to enable the arm to move up and down. Lastly, the tendons in a chicken wing are alike to the tendons in human arms.

However, the gill arches during the embryonic stage create similar structure in use, not appearance. The first gill arch creates “the trigeminal nerve in both humans and sharks” (Shubin 91). The cells of the second gill arch gives us cartilage and muscle that helps the creation of the stapes, as well as another bone, the hyoid, that assists in swallowing. In a shark, the same arch “helps with jaw production” that compares to hyoid (Shubin 92). In the third and fourth gill arch, for humans it produces structures necessary for speech and swallow and for sharks it includes parts of tissues that support the gills. Sharks and humans have gill arches in the embryonic stage, but unlike the statement proposes, they do develop into related structures in each…

There are many examples of body structures that are formed in similar ways during embryonic development and that share similar patterns of bone structure, even though they take on different forms and perform somewhat different functions. These structures are called homologous structures. Homo- means same, and -logous means information, so homologous means “same information”. Homologous structures mean that the animals share a relatively recent common ancestor. 1. Carefully examine the drawings of forelimb skeletons shown in Figure 1 on the next page. Look for similarities in the bones amongst the various animals. 2. Color in the human arm first. Color the bones of the arm (the humerus, ulna, and radius) blue. Color the bones of the hand (the carpal, metacarpals, and phalanges) yellow. 3. Color the corresponding bones in each of the other animals the same color as the human bones. 4. Observe each of the skeletons again, and describe the function of each limb in the table below: Animal human whale cat bat bird crocodile 5. Answer the Summary Questions. Function…

Tendons are fibrous connective tissue which attaches muscle to bone. A tendon serves to move the bone or structure. Muscles work in pairs, one muscle contracts and pulls on the bones to which they are attached and cause the bone to move. Each pair contains an agonist (the contracting muscle) and an antagonist (the opposing, relaxing muscle). When we have to work, a muscle receives an electrical signal from the brain, causes a movement to occur, because this causes the contraction in it.…
