Child Abuse And Neglect In The Workplace Essay
There are many different types of abuse and neglecting with in a workplace to lookout for from children with minor injuries and accidents to major bruising and neglect to the child’s health. With the least serious situations being that of a minor bruise or cut from day to day activities outside of the nursery, when dealing with situations like this we engage with the parents and ask them to fill out a form to explain what, where, when and how the incident occurred, this helps to keep a log of incidents for each individual child. Incidents involving a wider range of markings and regular occurrence on the child's body and the way in which the child is engaging with carers and other children within the nursery can determine different ways of dealing with these situations. These are divided up into different forms of neglect and abuse:

Neglect - This could be unclean hair and body, scruffy and unclean clothes, shoes and clothes that are too small for the child. Neglect Includes not meeting the child’s basic daily physical and mental requirements, this usually affects and reduces the child’s development and the child’s health. Neglect can also be during pregnancy if the mother is dependant or a casual victim of alcohol and or drugs. Other signs of neglect can be a lack of care, inadequate food, clothing and shelter. Things to look for relating to physical abuse are bruising on the body, the child shaking when you are trying to interact, burns or scaldings around the body. Physical harm can also be seen in different ways such as that of the parent overdoing or making out that the child is being a lot worse than they actually are.
