Adventist Home Summary “Preparation is Needed”

In this chapter Ellen G. White discusses the preparation needed to raise a child. The chapter begins with the important key that a child’s first teacher is the mother. “During the period of greatest susceptibility and most rapid development his education is to a great degree in her hands. To her first is given opportunity to mold the character for good or for evil,” says Mrs. White. She says that the mother, along with every other teacher, should be qualified to use it to the best account. Just the introduction of this chapter sparks self-evaluation and reflection. The mother alone holds a great responsibility. It is even considered a sin to assume the responsibilities of parenthood without such preparation.

Because God alone is our sufficiency, it is important to seek Him and His counsel raising children. Parents may only succeed nobly by prayer, study of the Bible, and earnest zeal on their part. It is our duty to understand God’s requirements. “How can you educate your children in the things of God unless you first know yourselves what is right and what is wrong, unless you realize that obedience means eternal life and disobedience eternal death?” In order to properly fulfill the responsibilities of a parent, you have to rake the Word of God as the rule of your life. God’s given us rules not to restrict us, but to guide us in the direction of life and happiness. It’s His love for us that led Him to offer His Son. Let us love like He does.

Parents owe children protection, education, love, and many other important things. But children owe parents respect, love, and trustworthiness. “I was too ashamed, mom. I hid.” Mom pointed her chopsticks at me. “You see?” She said, “Right there. That’s exactly what I’m saying. You’re way too easily embarrassed. Your father and I are who we are. Accept it.” We can all agree that the parents hold up the heavier side of this conversation, but no one can argue that children owe important things to their parents. “One time I saw a tiny Joshua tree sapling growing not too far from the old tree. I wanted to dig it up and replant it near our house. I told Mom that I would protect it from the wind and water it every day so that it could grow nice and tall and straight. Mom frowned at me. "You'd be destroying what makes it special," she said. "It's the Joshua tree's struggle that gives it its beauty.” Parents need to give their children space to grow by themselves. The parent’s duty is to make sure the child grows up in a good environment with education. But the little things like giving a little leeway can make all the difference in the world for your child growing up. Parents also owe their children protection, although protection wasn’t always the top of their lists. Rex walls and Rose Mary knew that keeping their child safe was more important than themselves.…

The central idea in this story seems to be the mother’s search of an understanding of her daughter’s personality and outlook on life. The majority of the story is the mother trying to depict reasons for why her daughter is the way she is, so delicate, reserved, needless, and even unhappy at times. She seems to also defend her parenting choices by making excuses or blaming the urges of others in order to not have all the blame on her. She speaks about how she had no other option but to put her in the care of someone else at the age of two, even though she knew the teacher was “evil” (Pg. 925). “It was the only place there was…the only way I could hold a job” (pg. 925).…

In the work setting it is essential to be able to communicate effectively with many different people on a daily basis. It is important to establish good relationships with a range of different people so that you can plan for and meet their needs. Personally in my setting I am expected to communicate with teachers, children, classroom assistants, lunch supervisors, clerical staff, care takers and parents. Different forms of communication may be required to do so and good communication skills are essential. It is impossible to develop good relationships without good communication. In my work setting the first people I would communicate with is the teacher of the class I am with. From them I learn the plans for the day, what child r children may need extra help, the goals we are working towards and any changes to the class, the children and the plans in place. After listing to the teacher I would then ask any relevant questions and ensure I am ready for the day ahead. Good communication is essential at this point as it helps build respectful relationships, and means that we work together in a team for the good of the children. Poor communication here would lead to either myself or the teacher being unsure of or tasks for the day, which may then lead to confusion for the children. Poor communication may then lead to feelings of stress and resentment as we may feel that we are being ignored or unappreciated. When we are communicating with our managers and peers, we need to ensure that we are communicating appropriately and respectfully. Firstly we need to ensure that were we are communicating is at an appropriate time and location, and that we speak to each other in an appropriate tone of voice. It is essential that we listen to everyone else, and respect their opinions and ideas. We can show we are listening by responding with appropriate questions, having eye contact and open, receptive body…

Every parent has an idea of how their child(ren) should be raised. We cannot expect for our children to turn out “right” if we as parents, don’t understand what “right” is. The bible however, is a manual that can be followed to direct our children to the “right” way of life. A few principles that parents can follow are a) to lead them to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. b) to teach them responsibility and c) to teach them the basic traits of Christian character.…

Parenting and the way one chooses to parent is so crucial to child development; it affects every aspect of the child’s life. Parenting styles are choices and there is no right or wrong way to raise a child. In society there may be, but it only matters how to the person raising their child. There are endless ways people raise their children and even though we have four main parenting styles, sometimes many parents don’t even fit into one. Parents should just strive to raise their children as well as they can. The biggest thing a parent can do for their child is to teach them, support them, and be there for them. “At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child's success is the positive involvement of parents.” - Jane D.…

Americans place their lives in the hands of their government. We trust that in doing so, things will inevitably work out in the correct way. However, this is not the case for many children who become lost in the Child Protective Services; or CPS organization. Texas has a separate system of courts that directly handles the cases in which a family’s structure, practices, and techniques come into question called the family courts. However, these courts often become overburdened and make serious mistakes sending children back into circumstances which offer little to no hope for a bright future. Their primary goal is to “reunite children with their families.” Serious consideration needs to be explored as to whom; the…

The Child Protective services are responsible for providing either quality child protection or child welfare services. Within the child protective services, many of their regulations should be in consideration and developed to benefit the social workers and the children within the system. As social workers continue their work even as to doing overtime to close cases, but it seems as the work is never ending because of the fact that work keeps piling up on a single social worker. Social workers at times do not notice maltreatment on the child because they cannot take full precaution during the little amount of time social workers have with the children and children do not feel as they can speak up or they will pay the price of having to go back…

When The Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997, the three main goals of this legislation involve the children who are in or are going to be in the foster care. These three goals are safety, well-being, and permanency. These goals are of the upmost importance when it comes to the foster care system because it gives the children an opportunity to settle into their new environment with stability and comfort in the most traumatic times. The first and most important goal is safety. The children who are placed in foster care are usually children who have been removed from an unsafe situation, and are placed with (hopefully) family members, or trained individuals on the foster care system (foster parents, group homes, etc.) need to be in a safe environment. A safe environment can include limited to no contact with the abusers themselves, or complete removal from the situation itself. Well-being is another important aspect of the foster care system that provides the children with options to better themselves and to acquire counseling while also providing support to help the child understand what has happened. The final aspect of the system is permanency. While it is important to know the cold is safe and their well being is taken care of, we have to be aware that the child is not going to be stable until they are placed in a permanent residence which is hopefully with a family member or a foster home. If the child is placed in a foster home it is a hopeful outcome that the foster family be willing to adopt the child if the situation arises.…
