The Industrial revolution was a rough and good time. It was rough because the work was so strict and demanding and life consuming. It was good because it allowed the world to grow and develope and more people had jobs which means more people had money to succeed.
The child labor laws during the Industrial Revolution weren’t as strict as they were today. Before the industrial revolution children typically worked on family farms. During the industrial revolution children worked in unsafe factories which were often polluted and over heated. Most children were expected to work as much as adults which was anywhere from 12 to 16 hours. “History.com Staff. “Child Labor.” History.com, A&E Television Networks, 2009”

house. Some of the luckier women were able to be maids for wealthy families while others were expected to work in factories of mines. It is estimated that around 30%-40% of the household earnings came from women. Women and children were more often preferred over men because factory owners and miners thought they were easier to control. “Hudson, Professor Pat. “History - Women's Work.” BBC, BBC, 29 Mar. 2011”
Mines during the Industrial Revolution were deeper than ever before.
Before the Industrial Revolution the need for coal was small but as the Industrial Revolution moved along the need for coal was great. So in result of that miners had to go deeper for more coal. Problems of the mines were the mines were very unsafe and would often times collapse which was expected as they were held up by wooden props. Mines could also flood which was time consuming because you couldn’t go any deeper. Since there were explosive gasses in these mines a spark from a miner’s pickaxe could mean big problems. Children in the mines probably had the hardest job of everyone. Children would have to push and pull mine carts filled with coal all the way to the top sometimes even being as long as 2 miles. Other children would sit in the dark with a candle and open and shut a wooden door to let in and out of the mine sometimes for hours with no one to interact with. Disease and injury during the Industrial Revolution were very common. Since the air was getting polluted by the mines and all the factories the injury of breathing was usually painful and caused fatal diseases. Since the machines in the factories weren’t safe it was common for workers to get caught in the machines and get bruises, broken bones, burns, and could get a limb torn off. Safety was very poor, workers got no compensation so if they got hurt that would mean no work and no money to support their family and no money to go to the doctor. Since brick factories had bad air chest diseases, coughs, blood-spitting, hard breathing, and pains in chest were very common.“Life in Great Britain during the Industrial Revolution.” Wikipedia, Wikimedia Foundation, 8 Sept. 2017”
In conclusion the Industrial revolution was a good time for evolving as a nation but bad for the people. They had to work long hours and risk injury and disease and the children had very dangerous jobs and less pay. Women had to do the same as men and they got paid less and had to go home after work and take care of the house. In the end the Industrial revolution was a good time for evolving as a nation but bad for the people.
