The Department of Computer Science
The department of Computer Science at UB was founded in 1992 and currently offers four degree programmes, namely, Bsc in Computer Science, BIS in Computer Information Systems, Master of Science in Computer Science, and Master of Science in Computer Information Systems. The Department has approximately 300 undergraduate students and 20 postgraduate students. The department also offers basic computing and information skills courses to all faculties of the University. The Department of Computer Science is based in Building 232 where it has extensive computing facilities that are continuously upgraded. There are a total of 11 laboratories for both teaching and research. Two laboratories host a total of 70 Linux® workstations and the rest are Windows® based. There is also a smaller laboratory equipped with 10 Solaris® workstations available for research students and staff. The department established a CISCO Academy which opened its doors to the first cohort of students in May 2008 and currently has 50 students. The Academy offers internationally acclaimed CISCO CCNA through its CISCO Networking Academy and will soon offer CCNP professional qualifications. The academy has three experienced and certified instructors. The courses offered are externally moderated and regulated by CISCO international. Our Academy enjoys state of the art CISCO equipment worth hundreds of thousands of pulas and well maintained laboratories.
