In this paper the researcher will address childhood obesity. People around the world may think childhood obesity can harm their children or help their kids, but in reality it works both ways. Healthy foods plays a big part in childhood obesity which when you see a child that is overweight you may think they are unhealthy but could just be genetics. This childhood obesity has become a worldwide epidemic base on unhealthy high caloric diet and the lack of parental regulations and a lack of knowledge. The unhealthy role of childhood obesity can cause younger kids to get pick on, low self-esteem or even suicide.

It was called dinner. As factories grew, so did the need for people to eat a lighter meal in order to get back to work. Public schools followed this same pattern. American cookbooks reflected this trend by including traveling lunch suggestion (picnic, school, work) in the second half of the 19th century. During this time American school children had three basic choices when it came to lunch: Boarding schools served formal meals, Urban schools often sent children home for lunch, Rural schools let children go home (if they lived close enough) or eat at the school (Olver, …show more content…

After careful research the plan was schools served a full course dinner instead of lunch. The meal was fulfilling with lot of calories to consume within a forty-five minute window for lunch. After eating lunch children had a few of minutes to burn these calories off by playing outside. The allotted time was not sufficient for their bodies to burn calories to maintain proper weight management.
The American Heart Association recommends eating foods low in saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, salt (sodium), and added sugar. It is best chose a variety of foods to get enough carbohydrates, protein and other nutrients. Make sure you have enough calories to maintain a healthy weight for your height and build. Be physically active for at least 60 minutes a day (American Heart Assocation ,

    In today 's society it is so easy to get caught up in the day to day duties of life; people often forget that their eating habits could be the death of them. The children of today are the children of the future, therefore raising them to make healthy eating choices in their childhood could prevent them from becoming part of the 20 percent of children that are obese. Over the past 30 years childhood obesity has more than tripled in the United States. According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, obesity in children is one of the easiest medical conditions to recognize but most difficult to treat. Due to a poor diet and lack of exercise children can run the dangerous risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes which go hand and hand with severely overweight children. Kids who are unhappy with their weight may also be more likely to develop eating disorders. Diagnosing and treating overweight and obesity in children as early as possible may reduce the risk of developing serious medical conditions. In the United States alone, over 300,000 deaths each year can be attributed to this disease (American Academy of Child, 2008). In 2005 a study found that children today may lead shorter lives by two to five years than their parents due to obesity (USA Today, 2011). Overweight children are much more likely to become overweight adults unless they adopt and maintain healthier patterns of eating and exercise both at home and in school.     Just take a short drive down any main street in a popular city and you will drive past no less than eight fast food restaurants and three convenient stores within a couple of blocks from each other. If that is the route driven on your way home every day from work and you don’t feel up to making a home cooked meal, what do you think your family will be eating that night. It is sometimes cheaper to buy a cheeseburger off of the value menu rather than cooking one at home. Fast food is a large reason why childhood obesity takes place. Fast food restaurants do not only aim to attract tired parents but also aim to gain those who obtain low and high incomes with their reasonable, in-budget, menu prices. The fast food industry knows this and has placed themselves in high traffic areas so they can capitalize on tired and hard working parents. There are many reasons for childhood obesity, one of which is poverty; income levels significantly impacts obesity amongst children in a variety of ways. Food insecurity happens when children do not have proper access or have limited access to nutritionally sound foods.     This same factor has a ripple effect on the student because it also limits them on what various types of meals they can choose during lunch hour, a poor selection of unhealthy foods leads to poor dieting. “The reimbursement rate for a reduced-price lunch is $2.17 and 24 cents for a paid meal.
