Two of the observation methods already exist within my setting; however through a wide and extensive reading search I selected three new methods.
The Tracker
This method needed preparation in the form of a box diagram of the outdoor learning area generated on the computer. Once designed it has the flexibility of beginning at any point during a day and wherever JC was within the outdoor environment. This method helped to collect evidence that identifies JC’s current interests and the duration that different activities held her attention. Hutchin, ( 2012) suggests that this method can be used to provide useful information as to how much adult interaction she seemed to access, which is an area I was keen to observe. Observing outdoors also gave me the opportunity to observe JC’s gross motor development and to use this data to inform planning through tracking it against the current early year’s …show more content…
Observation can reveal information we may not have known before. These observations, however, are only a snap shot of the overall development of the child. In these observations the main aim was to discover what JC’ s interests are, who she interacts with, access the stages of development she has reached, and make informed decisions to plan for her next steps (see appendix 3) and future development.
JC is seen to be an energetic and active child, similar to her peers, who moves around the classroom a lot, finding enjoyment in exploring her environment. JC interacts with her peers; however, I have observed, that JC seeks attention from a preferred adult within the classroom. Through further observation I should be able to see what motivates this
