college student, I look at these crimes as petty crimes that shouldn’t be committed. I often ask myself what an eleven year old child knows about sexually assaulting classmates or armed battery charges. Is this what we teach our children while their growing up? I would like to figure out why these children are committing adult crimes or even committing crimes at all. I know that juvenile crimes are a huge topic in the criminal justice system today. Children today learn from watching other people actions. They hear adult conversations about a close friend or relative being incarcerated for any reason. They often get immune to it and grow up thinking it’s nothing wrong with being incarcerated. There is no male figure in the child’s life to teach them that it is not right.
I need research how many children are sent to juvenile detention centers a year. I would like to know the age range in juvenile. I would also like to know what crime was committed for them to be there and how long their sentence is. Do most children learn their lesson after their first time in juvenile or do they like it in there? What is there daily schedule? How long do they have to wait until they get a court date? I would to find the answer to those questions and solutions to help keep these young children out of juvenile detention centers.
