In today’s world, children want to grow up faster and faster. Kids want to be like their older brother or sister. They want to be like the people they see on television. There is an extreme desire for materialistic items by a majority of the population, and kids want cell phones. The idea of kids having cell phones seems a little absurd. Children under the age of thirteen should not be allowed to have cell phones; they a major distraction, they are causing an increase in obesity rates, they are harmful, there is no major necessity for kids to have them, and they are an extra payment on you parents.
Children under the age of thirteen should not be allowed to have cell phones due to the huge distraction that they have on kids. When a child gets a cell phone they become obsessed with it. All they want to do is text, play games, or call their friends. A child with a cell phone can’t focus on anything else while that cell phone is in his or her hands. You can forget all about have a nice family dinner because as soon as that child gets a text from their friend, whatever you just asked them will never be answered. Also, don’t try to get them to clean their room while they are in the middle of a serious Pac- Man game because you will never win that battle. If they get a call from their new girlfriend or boyfriend of the week, you can forget all about taking your child to the pool for the afternoon because they will be totally wrapped up and distracted by their cell phones! Some also think that cell phones are making their kids less intelligent. One mother shares her concern by saying, “Is it just my kid, or is every child over the age of 8 carrying around a smartphone that’s making him dumb?” The mother goes on to share her concern by saying that her kid used to be a book worm and now he just listens to fart noises on his phone and thinks it’s funny. There is a maturity level that has to be reached to take on a cell
