China and India both unified people through religion because of their cultural diverse inside of their empires. China focus of religion was religion through living a simple life with Confucianism and India religion Buddhism was through karma these both were ways of unifying populations. Both China and India used imperial legitimacy to unify populations through conquering territories around to show their strength. Although in India, Asoka used imperial legitimacy beginning of his reign and after conquering territories he converted to a religion to not remember his blood thirsty past, the Han dynasty kept the idea of Imperial legitimacy constant during their rule.
