One reason for China’s water shortage is that the glaciers are melting. They are melting 7% each year and many people depend on these glaciers for water. Also the dry season is drying the lakes up. Temperatures are rising faster than the global average. In addition, northern China’s rain and snowfall have decreased. (Document A) A second cause for China’s water scarcity is that so many people are moving to the cities. Urbanization, more people=more water being used, and water being polluted by factories are just a few reasons why the water is so bad. Add that to the fact that many manufacturers build factories in urban areas and as farmland decreases because of urbanization, the food and water demand increases. So many industries are being produced, pollution is a major problem. The industries need a lot of water, and/so the water is getting contaminated. This problem helps explain China’s water shortage because smog is smoke and fog so it can make you sick just breathing it in. Factories are growing which leads to contaminated rivers. It is true that there are factors contributing to China’s water scarcity because there is too high of a demand for water and the price is so low people can just buy more and it won’t affect their budget. However, the three biggest causes of China’s water-scarcity crisis are global warming, urbanization and especially industrialization. Personal choices affect people and the environment all around the
