In the 1850's China was full was full of crime and poverty. There was people starving to death and committing crimes because they couldn't afford the materials to stay alive. Also, overpopulation was a problem in China so this had it more difficult for people to make a living in China. Overpopulation in the 1850's was such a huge problem that people were distributed with more than 400 people per square kilometer in the coastal areas. China's population was growing 1.4 percent per year. By 1950 the overall population of China was 450 million people. The United States passed down many acts targeting the Chinese. In 1854, just a few years after many Chinese have arrived in the United States, the court rules that Chinese cannot give testimony in court. A Chinese witnessed a murder by a white man and wasn’t able to testify because they thought that Chinese were a race of people whom nature has marked as inferior and that were incapable of progress. Even though the Chinese are hard and dedicated worker on the job and on school. So it was really just an ironic moment because the United States wants the Chinese people in here but also don’t want them to have right. This is starting to sound like the Chinese were becoming to be treated like slaves just like the African Americans. When the Chinese workers would give up the mining they would go work on the railroads. Chinese were the biggest impact in the American economy. In 1865 about 15,000 Chinese workers went to help on the railroad industry. A lot of the labors that worked on the Transcontinental Railroads were Chinese immigrants that just received $26 to $35 a month for a 12 hour day, 6 day work week. They Chinese immigrants also had to provide they own food and tents while they worked there. The way the railroad were built was by separating a crew of engineers and laborers. The group was divided were one group would start in the California eastward and the other part of the group would start at the middle of the country westward. They played a large role in the transcontinental railroad companies. The Chinese were a huge part of the American economy without them the railroads and the Gold rush wouldn’t of have been a major events in
