Chip Kidd: Artist Analysis
Ruth Ansel was the art director for New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair, House and Garden, as well Vogue throughout the 70s and 80’s. Her design was conceptual and new for the time while still seemingly flowing with the decades’ aesthetics. Her designs also have a creative longevity that most designers only wish to maintain. I draw inspiration from her fearlessness in design. She isn’t afraid to experiment or push boundaries. I have been moving towards experimental in my design in recent years and her work provided the push I needed.

Chip Kidd is book designer that I definitely look to for inspiration. Again he experiments with his design. He experiments with type and hue. His work inspired me to not be afraid to use experiment with hues as long as it makes sense with the project. I have in the past stuck to what was safe and I never pushed the envelope. His work is fun and it’s something that I would like for my own work.

She is not exclusively a graphic designer, even though she does d graphic design here and there. She is an illustrator, painter, and gallery owner. She has designed posters for bands and shows and everything in-between. Her work is cartoony and incredibly dark at times and also incredibly light at other times. My work goes towards cartoony. Her work is sometimes creepy and sometimes light and beautiful. Her work is contemporary but a contemporary that will age well and it’s something that I keep in mind with my own work. I work really hard to achieve work that will stay relevant for years to

The work of the Spanish painter Paco Pomet (Granada, 1970) inserts itself against the flow in the contemporary visual culture of intensive production of images vindicating the use of the imagination to challenge the common, and obsolete, perception of reality. For the execution of his paintings, the artist selects anonymous images, usually from photographic archives, and reproduces them with astonishing accuracy and exceptional technical mastery. Along with this operation, Pomet distorts the meaning of the original image in different ways: integrating an element alien to the thematic depicted, and usually humorous; deforming the limbs or physical extremities of the beings he portrays; combining diverse scales; or using bright, almost unreal, colors, among others. The…

VDread Scott artwork “what is the proper way to display the US flag?” In the exhibit, they place the flag the United States flag on the floor and they have a book to so people can write their opinion. Above the book, there is a picture of South Korea students burning the flag. “President Bush Sr. declared What is the Proper Way… “disgraceful” and the entire US Congress denounced this work as they passed legislation to “protect the flag.”(Dread Scott.net) Dread Scott had the courage to display his artwork the way he did. I think it was brave of him to display it in the form he did. His artwork is controversial because in order for people to write there thought they have to be willing to step on the flag.…

This paper has been far more difficult to research than I thought it would be. Unfortunately, photographers are not always given the full credit they desrve for their work and therefore, it is impossible to find the names of the artists of some of my favorite photographs. Instead, I decided to just look up popular photographers in the fashion industry in hopes of having easier access to information. Despite the fact that I now had the names of some of the most world famous fashion photographers, finding information on them is a whole other story in and of itself. As I am beginning to realize, the saying among the photography department is true- if you are not Annie Leibovitz, you will not be known until you are dead. For example, one of my favorite photographers is Diane Arbus. She had compiled vast amounts of work throughout her career. Unfortunately, all of her works were found in a locker after her suicide and then she was seen as an artist. To summarize what I am saying is that the only famous photographers are dead ones and all the successful ones are barely known. So in order for this research paper to even have the possibility of making it it to four pages, I am going to have to choose the cliché (yet greatly talented) photographer, Annie Leibovitz.…

    Art Analysis: John Byrd

I picked John Byrd, the artist, because most of his projects are of animals and i am an animal person that has a lot of love for animals. He looks like he is trying to convey his love for nature, animals, and interest for the organs and intestines of animals. John looks like he is trying to show the animals in a relatable way so more people can connect and relate to the artwork. In most of his pieces, John shows the animal with its inside organs and intestines showing through, maybe showing that we are all the same inside. The sculpture is labeled as a horse but untitled, it is a horse standing on what looks like a stone platform. His description of the artwork doesn’t tell the meaning behind the sculpture or its reasons for the…

Andy Warhol founded the art movement called pop art, and his lifestyle and work both mocked and celebrated the world’s obsession with materiality and fame. On one side, his paintings of distorted everyday items and celebrity faces could be seen as a display for what he viewed as a culture consumed with money and being famous. On the other side, his focus on consumer goods and celebrities, and his own fame and fortune, suggest a life in celebration of the aspects of American culture that his work criticized.…

    Pop Art Joe Hill Analysis

I would have never imagined my best friend in middle school would have been a boy with a pad around his neck and could be killed with a single puncture. Joe Hill’s short story Pop Art was exactly about that. How can two boys so different and from different worlds could build such a deep friendship. “My best friend when I was twelve was inflatable” I said. Joe Hill also turned his short story Pop Art into a short film. There are a few similarities between the short story and the film but the differences are greater in number. The differences between the two makes me enjoy the short story more than the short film. Joe Hill is an American writer who has a love for comic books, the comic books would often get turned into short stories like this.…

Over the past semester, I can strongly say that I have grown immensely as an artist. I have been able to widen my range of skills as well as increase them overall. One of my best works, as well as one of my favorites is my Expressionist painting. Ih results in a nspired by one of my best friends, Eleanor, my painting displays a variety of Expressionist principles. Expressionism is based on the distortion of form and color, which often results in a wide array of expressed emotions. By creating colors that blended well and by using smooth brush strokes, I am able to create unity within my painting, which in my opinion makes it one of my successful works. Coming from a person who normally avoids painting and also…

Throughout the course of my junior year, I have been challenged to be the best artist of my ability. As a graphic designer, I have learned to view things in a different light and learned to express my creativity. Although I am still learning new things everyday about how to become a better artist, I have improved tremendously in every way ranging from the thought process all the way to finalizing each project, and I think that as the days go by I will continue to do well in my high school graphic design career, but in continuing my education in this major and working in a field closely related to it. I have produced at least 5 projects that reflect my passion for graphic design including the New York World’s Fair, currency recreation, and the handmade film poster from the first semester of my junior year and from the second half up until my most recent project, a book jacket, and an organic drink package design.…
