Chiropractic Care
A study at Florida Atlantic University found that people who underwent chiropractic adjustments had a fifteen percent lower rate of the flu than people who didn 't have their backs cracked. People often go to chiropractors to receive treatment for back pain, neck pain, headaches, car accidents, repetitive motion injuries or strains, and sports injuries. Twenty million Americans use chiropractic services every year. Chiropractic represents the most rapidly growing segment of the professional health services market. and it is inexpensive.
Chiropractic is the largest, most regulated, and best recognized of the complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) professions.
It is the third largest doctoral-level health care profession after medicine and dentistry. There are more than 60,000 active chiropractic licenses in the United States. All 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands officially recognize chiropractic as a health care profession. Chiropractic care means it is done by hand. In an interview with Steve Smith he said, “There are a few different types of chiropractic care. The most common one is a massage. This is where a chiropractor comes and massages the muscles around the injured part of the spine and either massages the area of where the hurt part is or will pop the bone(s) which causes increased motion of the bones and helps them go back into place. This is otherwise called “being …show more content…
corrected.”
Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), or electrotherapy is a very popular way to shake the muscles and prevent muscle atrophy. Some patients need it desperately, and that 's why a lot of doctors use it on a regular basis. EMS is good when the patient has been suffering from strong injuries and is put to bed for a long time. It is the elicitation of muscle contraction using electric impulses. The impulses are generated by a device and delivered through electrodes on the skin in direct proximity to the muscles to be stimulated. The electrodes are usually pads that stick to the skin. The impulses mimic the action potential coming from the central nervous system, causing the muscles to contract. After this a chiropractor comes and corrects the injured part of your spine. Using EMS is strongly recommended in cases of injuries, and most medical insurances cover it.
Acupuncture is said to be such a great treatment for almost any conditions because at one time it was used as an anesthesia. Acupuncture is an alternative medicine methodology originating in ancient China that treats patients by manipulating thin, solid needles that have been inserted into acupuncture points in the skin. It stimulates the body 's immune and healing systems.
Patients seeing chiropractors described the treatment as helpful in 96% of the cases. Chiropractic is important for over-all general health and well-being. The chiropractic adjustment directly affects the nervous system (Haugen). It causes the nervous system to stop creating the stress response. The hormones that support stress cease to be created, and the body creates endorphins that support growth and well-being. When the body is in this state, it has a stronger immune system and there is less disease and infirmity. It’s effective because the nervous system controls every part of the body, and chiropractic care restores the nervous systems and immune systems integrity (Haugen). One of the best reasons for adopting chiropractic care is that it does not involve the use of drugs for surgery for treating patients suffering from body pains (Crownfield “Back…”). Due to its effectiveness and good results, chiropractic care is extremely popular for treating poor conditions of spine, discs, bones, and even nerves. Chiropractors aim to improve the complete nervous system of the body through treating misaligned joints, neck pains, and spine disorders. Chiropractic care seeks to restore proper control and regulation of the bodily functions so health can return, naturally by working naturally and directly with the body and not against it (Davis).
Chiropractic care can be extremely helpful for pregnant women. Some of the major benefits of adopting chiropractic care during pregnancy include reduced labor time during delivery, increased chances of full-term delivery, relief from neck, joint, and back pains, controlled nausea symptoms, and reduced chances of cesarean section (“Chiropractic care during…”). Good chiropractic care will also increase the overall health of the mother and the baby by improving hormonal releases to relax body muscles. Even newborns get adjusted to correct the spinal trauma from the birth process (“Do…”).
An increase in chronic childhood disease is part of the reason parents today seek alternative health care for kids. Chiropractic care is an effective and affordable program by licensed providers that addresses children 's health conditions associated with the nervous and musculoskeletal systems.
Gentle, noninvasive and drug free, chiropractic adjustments treat, resolve and prevent a wide range of health problems. Recent research by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) found spinal manipulative therapy safe and successful in treating children of all ages. ("Chiropractic Care Enhances…”)
The American Chiropractic Association and the Association of Chiropractic Colleges are expressing support for newly introduced legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives designed to expand the availability of the services delivered by chiropractic physicians in the federal Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and to those who utilize the military’s health care delivery system run by the Department of Defense.
According to the ICA, this important legislation would extend veterans access to in-facility chiropractic services by requiring the expansion of chiropractic personnel requirements to not fewer than 75 medical centers by not later than December 31, 2008, and at all medical centers by not later than December 31, 2011. It would also speed up the expansion of the highly successful pilot chiropractic services program, and assist in meeting the high demand for chiropractic services by the veteran population. Finally, this legislation would provide better access to veterans for the care of their choice. In the United States, nearly all Americans have access to chiropractic care, regardless of insurance coverage for chiropractic services. Unfortunately, often times US veterans who have served to preserve this country 's freedoms, are required to pay out-of-pocket for chiropractic care since there are too infrequently chiropractic services available at veteran’s health care facilities. Chiropractic helps the body heal itself by balancing the neuromusculoskeletal system.
Aligning the spine, relaxing the muscles, and healing the tissues allow for proper nerve, blood, lymphatic, and energy flow (Coulter). Chiropractic 's special feature is that it has a direct effect on the nervous system. The nervous system connects us with the outside world and directs the functioning of our inside world. The immediate goals of chiropractic care are to relieve pain, heal tissues and restore function. With preventive and maintenance care, the goals are to prevent future problems from developing or at least to minimize their magnitude. Pain is perceived by the nerves; it is caused by pressure, decreased blood flow or accumulation of toxins. Chiropractic adjustments reverse all three causes of pain (Coulter). It makes sense to correct the underlying cause rather than numb the body and mask the symptoms with
drugs.
Chiropractic care is a lot better than surgery because it is a lot cheaper and there is no opening up of the body and the ugly scar leftovers. Chiropractors charge an average of $42 for a massage therapy session (Crownfield “Chiropractic…”). The cost of most general chiropractic sessions includes an adjustment of the vertebrae. The length and frequency of sessions depends on the severity of a patient 's need. New patients should expect to pay slightly more on their first visit, from $61 to $161, because an overall health consultation is usually required. Chiropractors charge additional fees for X-rays, which can range from $44 to $159 (Crownfield “Chiropractic…”). Acupuncturists charge $100 to $150 for an initial visit, which generally includes a consultation, and around $65 for follow-up visits.
Surgery can be extremely expensive, and the bill can linger around for many years afterwards. For patients not covered by health insurance, spinal fusion typically used to treat conditions such as a slipped vertebra, fractured vertebra or other spinal instability, typically costs $80,000 to $150,000 or more (Crownfield “Chiropractic…”). Back surgery is covered by most health insurance plans if ordered by a doctor. Most patients require two to six weeks of recovery time. A back brace, which sometimes is required, can cost $200 or more. Physical therapy at $50 to $100 or more per session can add $1,000 or more to the cost. Pain medication probably will be prescribed during recovery, and sometimes equipment such as a walker, which can cost $50 to $100 or more, is needed.
Chiropractic care is the best care for your back because it has a broad range of types of care, it is highly advantageous, it is helpful for everyone, and it is inexpensive. Massage, EMC, and acupuncture are three great ways of helping with back pain. All three of them do great things for the back. Chiropractic care promotes great health all around besides just back problems. Anyone and everyone should look into getting some form of chiropractic care. It heals a lot more than just back problems. It helps with health issues as well as physical issues. It is also rather inexpensive compared to surgery and the recovery time afterwards. Chiropractic care is the best back care to date.
