All about Eve directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, 1950 is a film about the choices that each character makes. Throughout the film, some of the characters had choices. These choices included trust and honesty. However many of the characters trusted too easily and when they realized the truth, it was too late. As one of the most manipulative character, Eve starts the story, it was Karen's choice to introduce one of Margo Channing's biggest fan to her. People make choices in life and if Karen hadn't make the choice of letting a stranger into their lives, they wouldn't have gone through all the neat tricks Eve had done to them.
Women in the theatre must sacrifice their own "human" qualities such as femininity to
succeed as they are consumed by their own ambition in pursuing glory and stardom. Most prominent example is through Eve's actions. 'When you told me that whatever I became, it would be because of you...and for you.' However Bill ignores her and responds by saying 'I'm in love with Margo hadn't you heard?' It is not their choice that they will become famous or not. It is up to the playwrights and directors, in this case which most of them would be men, to choose, to decide if that female actress has the best fit for a part to play in, in order for women to attract fame. For females to succeed in becoming one of the director's choices, they have to sacrifice their femininity.
Karen made a choice of letting Eve meet Margo Channing. If it wasn't for Karen, Bill, Lloyd and Margo wouldn't have gone through all of Eve's manipulations. Karen had put herself in a situation where she just thought the wanted to help a total stranger but didn't think twice about her. For example, 'I hope you don't mind my speaking to you.' -Eve, 'not at all' -Karen. It is clear to us that Karen trust people too easily, shouldn't help a random stranger and should think clearly before making a choice.
