Cholula Hot Sauce (Original) is one of the few truly Mexican hot sauces to achieve true cult status in the US. Famous for the wooden cap on its bottles, Cholula Hot Sauce offers a light flavor along with a mild but long-lasting heat. The makers of Cholula Hot Sauce (Original) claim that it is made from a recipe that is more than 100 years old and which has not been changed over the years.

These peppers are believed to have descended from the cayenne pepper and their capsaicin content enables them to deliver between 50,000 and 65,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHUs). This is quite high in comparison to the other peppers typically used to make American hot sauces. Consider the fact that the Tabasco pepper only offers 30,000 to 50,000 SHUs and the relatively mild jalapenos used for Sriracha are able to bring only 2,500 to 8,000 SHUs to the table. The flavor of the Arbol chile can be described as being fresh and herbaceous flavor with a mild nutty note to go with its

In the 90's it was very hard to find a fast pace food environment that could actually serve quality food, that’s where Chipotle began to stand out. Bringing authentic and fresh Mexican ingredients is one of the many things that makes chipotle stand out to their competition. Chipotle meats are fresh, never frozen, left over night to marinate and grilled fresh every hour .They raise their cattle in humane conditions which help the quality of their meat, from my experience at dinging in this restaurant it always carries a peculiar taste as compared to other restaurants who have added hormones to enhance flavors. You can taste the unadulterated flavors in their vegetables, salsas, and guacamole versus the genetically modified condiments provided at other establishments. Chipotle is one of the few places that thrive on quality and quantity in a fast food environment yet still guarantying fresh flavorful organic ingredients. For those who are now a part of the health conscious wave this is without a doubt the best option for not only them but for…

Clopper would be the first person to describe the concoction that would later be the first known description of a chili. He wrote that poor families in the region of San Antonio would add spices and onions with some pieces of meat to even the amount of meat and of the herbs and spices to create a “stew”. This created a chili that made it easier to feed multiple people. There is a Tall Tale about the herbs that were planted along the cattle trail of Texas during the 1800s. A range cook from Marfa, Texas that would cook chili would make his way through the great cattle trails of Texas but wanted to make sure he had enough supplies to make his chili during his travels. Consequently, he would plant the seeds of the spices and herbs that he would use and when he would pass by again he would harvest his crop and use it to continually make his chili. This is the tale to how the well-traveled cattle trail grew in popularity because of the copious amounts of ingredients that could be added to chili. Many towns in Texas along the cattle trail began to make the most popular chili in Texas, chile con carne, which translates to chili with…

When I hear the word Mexico, images of mouthwatering enchiladas and quesadillas come to mind. And of course, salsa. Salsa may not seem very unique, but its history stretches back to the time that the Aztecs ruled Mexico (Dumois). The Aztecs used salsas and guacamoles to transform “something as tasteless as white chicken breast into a real delicacy, worthy enough to be served on the most sophisticated and elegant table” (Dumois). Salsa is made from ingredients that are already in Mexico, such as red tomatoes, onion, garlic, chiles, and cilantro, also known as coriander (Dumois) (Sherril C.). Some salsas are based on little green tomatoes, or tomatillos, and sometimes even chocolate is used to make certain salsas (Dumois). Mexican cuisine has a wide variety of influences due to the colonization during the Age of Exploration and trade between people from various countries and continents. In a word, Mexican food is a result of several, diverse culinary influences and therefore a mixture of varied cooking styles and ingredients in various cultures (Manohar).…
