He and She
She took after their father,
Hair like a tangle of wire.
He took after their mother,
A dreamer who curled by the fire.

She chose games that were rowdy,
Borrowed his planes and his cars.
He gazed out of the window,
Riding the moon and the stars.

She would rage like a tiger,
Fight him with fists and with hate.
He would smoulder in silence,
Patiently, bitterly wait.

She ran wild in the playground,
Shouting her threats at the boys.
He crept under the oak tree,
Guarding his thoughts from the noise.

She was chased through the schoolyard,
Taunted and trapped till she cried.
He was a powerful stranger,
A hero who flew to her side.

She took after their father,
He took after their mother.
Both of them bloodied and smiling,
Proud to be sister and brother.

Solo girl: A brother is a friend given by Nature.

Boys: A sister is a gift to the heart, a friend to the spirit, a golden thread to the meaning of life.
Girls: The best way to get a puppy is to beg for a baby brother - and they'll settle for a puppy every time.

The main character of “The Outsiders” was Ponyboy Curtis, the younger brother of Darry and Sodapop Curtis. Ponyboy is very unique from all of the other characters, they are all unique. He isn’t the tuff like Dally, the pet like Johnny, the leader like Darry, the silly one like Sodapop, the wisecrack like two-bit, or even the confident and arrogant one like Steve. Ponyboy is quiet, smart, young, and kind. One of Ponyboys obstacles in the book was his brother Darry, the leader of the gang. “I could tell it was Darry though - partly because of the voice and partly because Darry’s always rough with me without meaning to be. ‘ “I didnt mean to!” Darry shouted… “Thats all i hear out of you! Cant you think of anything?” “Darry…” Sodapop began, but…

    The Piedmont Choirs

The members of the Piedmont Choirs prioritize the tuning of the choirs above almost all other aspects of the music we sing. Some people I have sung with in choir have absolute pitch, which means they can identify or sing any given note without the help of any instrument, and a multitude of people I have sung with have relative pitch, which means they have some notes memorized. I was in the flagship ensemble of the Piedmont Choirs the year a choir I was in was the most consistently in tune. We spent that year preparing for a choral competition in Bratislava, and the training combined with our determined mindsets gave us plenty of payback by June. We toured through Germany and Austria before arriving in Slovenia. Our first day in Bratislava was also the first day of the festival we were competing in. That night, the festival began with a concert featuring all the choirs participating. We were notably excited to hear the choirs we would compete with and hoped to produce a quality first impression.…

Many adults and some of my classmates have dismissed my thoughts on higher level thinking such as philosophical ideas, spirituality and politics, because I am said to be too young to comprehend what they are discussing. Age has been an excuse to let children slack off in school work or other aspects of life. Age should not be used as a description but as reminder of the years God has granted you to tell the world about his great love. “There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.” ― Sophia Loren.…

During the 1980’s a new style began to emerge. This style was Hip-hop and it consisted of a mix of music, breakdancing and graffiti. Culturally, in its early days graffiti was limited to downstate New York and conformed to a certain set of ideals. However, as time went on, it spread to other cities and different types of graffiti began to emerge. Socially, along with the different types of graffiti came different types of graffiti writers from different places, some of whom were not afraid to go against graffiti’s original ideals. Over the years, Hip-hop has evolved and spread as something that had once been localized and unique to something that has become widespread and more common, which has resulted to many changes to the culture.…

With age comes maturity, increased awareness, and common sense. As I got older I started to realize that the life and opportunities that were given to me were not necessarily given to my classmate next to me. I believe this concept really drove home when I met a boy named Amit in middle school. Amit was a new student who really stood out to me because he spoke very little English. At the time I thought, “Who doesn’t know how…
