Chapter I discuss the background of the study which includes the background and the problems encountered of the company. It also includes the objectives of the system from general to specific. The significance of the study and the scope and limitations of the system will also be discussed in this chapter.

The computerized patient information and billing system is expected to help local community hospitals because of its ability to automatically store the patient's information, generates reports, compute patient’s bill and official receipt that surely fasten their transactions with the patients. From admitting a patient to discharging, laboratory procedures and other local community hospitals procedures will be updated and presented in precision. [AVIS 2002]
Today, computerization is a major advancement in technology that helps in many ways: it makes information storage easier and faster thus it can save a lot of time and manpower, and many tasks are done in a certain amount of time. Great amount of time is being consumed by information retrieval and the billing process of most local community Hospitals without computer generated system is slow. To be able to provide the medical needs of the rapidly growing population, local community hospitals must be versatile to the current trends and innovation in today's changes in technology.
St. John Clinic a clinic that is located at Nagpayong, Pasig City. St. John Clinic was owned by Esteve Yu – also the MedTech of the clinic. The clinic was first introduced to people in the month of April year 2009 and it was registered on the 11th of May, 2011 and will work up to the date of May 11, 2016. The clinic has 4 registered Doctors, 1 Med Tech, 5 Nurses, 1 Midwife. It is open 24 hours from Monday to Sunday. St. John Clinic is a small time clinic that can handle 15-20 patients every day.
