Chris Kyle-“American Sniper”
Chris was born on April 8, 1974 in Odessa, Texas. His parents were Debby Kyle and Wayne Kyle. After graduating from grade school he went to work on a ranch, with a side job as a professional bronco rider. His bronco riding career ended soon after an arm injury. Chris then decided he wanted to do Marine Special Ops. He was rejected because of the pins in his arm. A year later the Navy contacted him about a special opening, not mentioning his pins he agrees to begin training for a new type of special ops. He was invited to BUD/S or Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL School. This was a 24 week training period including an extra intense period known as “Hell Week” where most recruits would drop out. After training he was put in SEAL team 3 following the events of 9/11. He was deployed 4 times to these locations Sadr, Baghdad, …show more content…
Fallujah, and Ramadi. In Ramadi a bounty was placed on his head of 21,000 dollars, later increased to 80,000 dollars. He also got a title from natives as “Shaitain Ar-Ramadi” and “Devil of Ramadi”. In his 4 deployments he racked up 160 confirmed kills and countless unconfirmed ones as well.
In his first deployment he was part of the initial invasion, moving from town to town. Later in his 2nd deployment he was stationed in Fallujah. This is where he got his first confirmed and possibly most controversial kill. About 50 yards away he saw a woman and a kid walking towards his platoon. Then he saw her pull a pin to a grenade and decided to pull the trigger. He was later quoted saying, "the woman was already dead. I was just making sure she didn't take any Marines with her”. In his account he pulled the trigger twice. He then went to Ramadi in his third deployment; the city had changed since his first time he had visited during the initial invasion. His fourth and final deployment had been in Sadr where one of his comrades was killed and another was blinded. This is where he got his longest confirmed kill. A terrorist was atop a building holding an RPG about to attack a convoy. Needless to say he dropped him. He went home to start a PTSD recovery center. One day while out on a shooting range he was murdered by Eddie Ray Routh. A funeral was held in the Cowboys Stadium in
Arlington, Texas, on February 11, 2013.
