Your honor, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, today we are charging Brandon Trinh with the violation of a weapon on school grounds. On April 21st, School Resource Officer of Great Oak High School, Israel Sosa, made a police report upon an allegation of suspect Brandon Trinh carrying a knife on school campus. Upon further investigation, Brandon admitted to carrying a pocket knife with a 3’’ blade for several months for the sole purpose of intimidation against the bullies in his JROTC class and had reportedly stated he “only showed one other student.”. Despite the multiple school counselors on site, Trinh acknowledged his mistake in not informing one. Although his demeanor against the bullies was in a defensive way, the intimidation tactic itself…
I agree with the author that Chris McCandless wasn’t a crazy person and he was seeking happiness for himself in the wild. There are many things that show that he wasn’t crazy, like getting along with people, having some knowledge of living in the wild, and he was very bright and made some good decisions. However, he did seem somewhat incompetent.…
Tylenol or known as Acetaminophen is a popular pain reliever, since it helps with common types of aches. However, there is no drug that is completely safe. Chris Silas Neal wrote an article titled The Trouble With Tylenol and Pregnancy which was published on September 24, 2016. According to this writer, children born from mothers, who took this medicine during pregnancy, could receive Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) or asthma. In his article, Neal targets the heart and mind of his audience: pregnant women. Neal uses enough emotion in his article, provides well thought logic and reasoning, and appears to have good ethics and credibility.…
The most important place in Chris McCandless’s life is quite possibly the place he died, the fateful Fairbanks bus number 142. The bus is situated in a clearing in the Alaskan wilderness, surrounded by tall trees, undisturbed by the advances of modern life. While the painting is based on an actual image of bus 142, the vast emptiness of the clearing around the bus symbolizes how alienated McCandless felt by his community for his atypical beliefs. The brush growing around the bus and in the corner of the clearing represents modern views trying to invade his personal set of values. In the background, the fir trees represent all the different people in McCandless’s life and how powerful their influences on him. The bigger trees are people like Jim Gallien and Wayne Westerberg, both…
Chris McCandless went into the wild to escape corrupt society. He also did it because he fell in love with nature through his readings of books by authors such as Charles Dickens and Jack London. “He didn’t appear to be very old eighteen, maybe nineteen at most.” (Krakauer p.3) Jim Gallien had said this when he first saw Chris. McCandless was still a young kid. Chris is crazy because at nineteen he wanted to do this when his parents…
Chris McCandless was a bright, dedicated, and sophisticated young man that followed his dreams and accomplished it. He was a very admirable…
One man’s logic is another man’s senselessness. One man’s routine is another man’s torture. Chris McCandless is not far from this analogy. In the novel, Into the Wild by John Krakauer, the eccentric story of a man who was living the American dream abandons society and takes off on a wild adventure, traveling America with nothing more than cheap hiking boots, a small riffle, and a ten pound bag of rice. But if McCandless had such an ideal life, why would he desert it? Perhaps there was an underlining issue that ate at his soul each day he followed society’s rules and his parent’s extraordinary expectations.…
At 24 years old, Chris McCandless died of starvation in the Alaskan wilderness. It’s not because of the reasons that you may expect. It is because he is a very complex and strange man. Kleinfeld tries to simplify him by implying he is just a dumb jerk, as opposed to a hero or soul searcher. However, he defies just one category. Christopher McCandless or “Alexander Supertramp”, as he called himself, can be classified as: a hero, a soul searcher, and a dumb jerk.…
Also, Callarman says that Chris “made a lot of mistakes base on arrogance.” I agree; Chris does make a lot of errors. For instance, he brings the wrong kind of gun, the wrong kind of clothes, too many books and not enough food. What is the purpose of his reading and his library research in Alaska if he’s not going to be willing to take advice? So yes, Chris’s mistakes maybe coming from an arrogant brain.…
The Dan Bakers argument that rape could be moral it brings up an interesting point of view. Personally, I don’t know where I would stand on the argument. The idea of morally justifying rape is interesting in the way that they put it in the hypothetical instance. The idea of make a person go rape another person in order so the save all of humanity pushed the normality thinking of doing an extreme task for the greater good. When it comes to Dan Barkers argument it makes scenes for a person cause harm to one in order to save all, yes. Would we be okay with the action is more morally personal, but the idea of sacrificing one in order to save many I would think would be common thinking? It like with the idea of the runaway trolley and take one life…
I agree that Chris McCandless was ignorant and bright at the same time but he liked to do what he did. He didn’t really have common sense but he was brave. Chris McCandless came from a rich family and graduated from Emory University he was a top athlete and a top student in the University. Whenever he graduated from college, Instead of embarking on a prestigious career or work he chose to give his savings to charity. i think if he would of kept studying he would of had a good life and lived longer than he expected to. Like they would say he was ignorant and that he didn’t really have common sense. He also had a degree and he came from a wealthy family I don't know why he would just throw that away like that. I agree with them because instead of studying and becoming something in life he donated his money and left on a journey.…
Pornogophy "turns a woman into a thing to be acquired and used." And that it is primarily concerned "with whether women bleed"(199) She Martian that there is no legitimate distinction between rape and pornography, describing pornography as "sexual terrorism" () Implicit to virtually every aspect of Mackinnon's arguments is the assumption that women are unmitigated, unequal perpetual victims of human sexuality. This argument is harmful to the feminist cause because it divorces women from their sexuality. It creates a double standard in which women are inherently degraded by sex, but men are not. It perpetuates the notion…
Some say that McCandless was bright because of his intelligence, but he wasn't bright when it came to the wilderness. McCandless had no type of experience in the wild whatsoever. According to what the author said “Gallien reached behind the seat, pulled out an old pair of…
I agree with Ken Rigby because it is important to consider other factors into bullying, especially the reasoning/motivations behind the bullying behavior. Ken Rigby argument has many statistics and facts to back up his argument, while still being persuasive. Also, the article is well organized with headings for each important section, where he elaborates on the topic in that heading. Rigby has a great understanding behind the research into the desire and desires behind bullying behavior, this is because of his background which includes being a member of the National Centre against Bullying, an honors degree in economics, post graduate certificate in education, and a PhD in psychology. Rigby’s article seems to be persuasive while being informative,…
Christopher McCandless- The subject of Into the Wild. Graduates from Emory University with honors in 1990, and afterwards gives all of his savings to charity, starts going by the name of "Alex," abandons almost all of his possessions, and spends two years hitchhiking and traveling around the west. He then hitchhikes to Alaska, where he walks alone into the wilderness north of Mt. McKinley in April 1992. He is found dead four months later.…
