Chris Mccandless Research Paper
Who was Chris McCandless? What was he looking for? Chris was a intelligent, ambitious, even complex person. I think he was searching for adventure, freedom, and independence. To live nomadically. Did he ever find what he was looking for? It seemed He struggled to completely immerse himself, and couldn't always stay in the wilderness. I think he was happy but only temporarily before he had to return to civilization. At least that's what I assume. I don't know if he truly ever found what he was looking for, no one could know. It might be hard to understand him because he's different from most people, he didn't want the exact things everyone else wanted. The most important place in Chris McCandless’s life is quite possibly the place he died, the fateful Fairbanks bus number 142. The bus is situated in a clearing in the Alaskan wilderness, surrounded by tall trees, undisturbed by the advances of modern life. While the painting is based on an actual image of bus 142, the vast emptiness of the clearing around the bus symbolizes how alienated McCandless felt by his community for his atypical beliefs. The brush growing around the bus and in the corner of the clearing represents modern views trying to invade his personal set of values. In the background, the fir trees represent all the different people in McCandless’s life and how powerful their influences on him. The bigger trees are people like Jim Gallien and Wayne Westerberg, both…

Chris in my mind was trying to be someone he wasn’t, he thought to hard on life and complicated it all to be like the philosophers he idolized. He was wanting to “find” himself when he was already in college working on his degree. Going on this trip was throwing away all the luxuries of life and living how we used to before technology, living off the land. And how the philosopher talked of how he did and found himself and loved it, chris wanted to have that experience. He was trying to be someone he was not. He needed to be seeking things he thought and knew would make him happy instead of taking the path someone else took to get a certain result, because you can't and won't cause everyone is different. Chris didn't need to go to the wild and live off the land to be happy and find who he was. Chris was a hard worker, that was a people person, everyone that met him liked him. I feel Chris wasn't the type to stick in one place for a long time, and he needed to be surrounded by people and that made him happy. But since he is stubborn he fell through with his plan to go to Alaska, even though on the journey to where he wanted to be he found who he was and what he was meant to do. He was met to meet lots of people and make connections everywhere, while finding little side jobs. That made Chris…
