How can women be the largest demographic? Fifty Shades of Grey shows Anastasia as Christian’s victim; he wants complete control over her life and loyalty. There is no reason for why she feels such a profound connection to him; he abuses, and manipulates her in order to get her to agree to his contract.
The audience is expected to accept Anastasia sees in him a warm human with a heart; she will discount his coldness to try to convince to love her back. This is when media literacy becomes so important; society is always bombarded with media messages that promise happy endings in exchange for a miserable life. People must have a shared understanding of what is acceptable and what is not (both for men and women) then it comes to relationships. Both characters rely on very stereotypical notions of gender sexuality; the man opts for physical aggression and the woman endures such behavior for being emotionally fragile. Until mainstream media puts women in control of her self, and let men let go of complete control, it will be difficult for society to accept the two genders are equally responsible of their
