I do not agree with this statement. Though these two ideas are distinct, there is no contradiction between them and it is possible for these two distinct ideas to be unified.
Christian idea of Agape is an idea of love is ‘unconditional love’ advocated by Christ and his fellows. In Christian theology, Agape love is the sacrifice of God, the love of God. God's love is the highest and purest form of self-sacrifice.

Basically, Agape love is talking about unconditional love which is god-like. There is no reason for loving others just as god loves human beings.
Plato’s erotic love is ‘tempted love’ originated from ancient Greek, advocated by Plato. In this sense, love is all about sexual temptation. Erotic love focuses on satisfying people’s desires. We love others bases on our desires to love others because of different sexual appeals. Sex, romance are the main elements of this kind of love. The word ‘erotic’ simply descries this love in a large extent.
These two kinds of love are distinct in lots of aspects. Regarding the people you love, Agape’s love emphasizes unconditional love as stated before. People with Agape’s love will love others though they are with defects. People with Erotic love will love others simply because of their appeals arousing their sexual desires. And regarding the nature of love, Agape’s love emphasizes love is unselfish sacrifice. Basically, love in here is devotion; you could not expect any reward afterward.
