Christian Theism vs. Deism

Christian Theism vs. Deism Although in a lot of areas Christian Theism and Deism are viewed as basically the same, they actually show many differences in their worldviews. One of the main reasons that they are different is because in Christian Theism the bible is the prime source of authority, what it says is what goes. However, in Deism, the bible is again part of the prime source of authority but also human reason is taken into account. For instance, in the bible it says that Jesus walked on water and rose from the dead and ascended into heaven. This is completely believed without being questioned in Theism, but in Deism many people would say they have not seen any one walk on water during their lifetime, therefore it is impossible. This is the same belief they have towards rising from the dead and ascending into heaven as the theists believe. Also taken into account in Deism that is not talked about in Christian Theism is the study and implication of science into how the world works. Through looking at both science and the bible the picture of what the universe is and how it was made is realized. In Theism the only way we know anything about the world is due to what the bible and God has said. Also in Deism it is believed that God is the creator of the entire universe, except it is believed that he is transcendent but not immanent. This means that God is an overseer of the universe but is not believed to have any control over what goes on inside the universe that he created. Deists believe also that the world is a place of cause and effect actions, they do not believe that things just occur, but that they all have a reason for occurring. The belief of the afterlife is much different than that of the Christian Theists. Theists believe that you either go to heaven or hell, based on the way you lived your life while on earth. Deists just believe that when you die, man ceases to exists, that it is all over once you die. Deists and theists disagree
