In fact, Rossetti says that it would be better to forget and smile than to remember and be sad. In other words, she says this because she doesn’t want her lover to spend their life grieving after her loss. This metaphor is important because the majority of Rossetti’s poem is a request for her lover to remember her, but here she is saying it would be better to forget instead. However, in the end, this poem was namely about the remembrance of someone you love.
Lastly, “Remember” is structured as a Petrarchan sonnet originating from the Victorian Era. Rossetti most likely chose to write it in this style because Petrarchan sonnets are traditionally associated with love. This happens to work out with her poem because for someone to remember you, you would want them to appreciate you. In conclusion, I found that the structure assisted the meaning of the poem. Given these points, I found that the combination of these elements assisted in improving the poem. Although some people who have read the poem may overlook these details, it should in fact be noted that they all help make the poem into what it is. The poem benefited from all of these elements in some way or another, and you should benefit from it
