The first line she wrote was “Cecilia never went to school/without her gladiator”. When she was eleven she wrote her first poem, “To my Mother on her Birthday”. At 16 years old, Christina has written more than fifty poems. In 1847 she put all her poems together and she named it Verses and she got her grandpa to print it out for her. Her most famous work was still Goblin Market which was written in 1862 which was mainly about fruit showing temptations of pleasure and self-indulgence. Rossetti did not have just one style of writing, she has many different poems in her collection. She writes things such as, mortality, inconstant, and corruption. But Versus was very important because it showed her commitment to poetry. In 1848 she became famous at seventeen years old by two poems she wrote, Death’s Chill Between which is mainly about a woman heartbroken after the death of a loved one and Heart’s Chill Between. This book wasn’t published until after she died. This book is about a protagonist who is a young 15 year old girl but she is very mature. Maude has a little book that she carries around with her. She carries a little journal so whenever she is doing something and something around her inspires her, she writes it down in her journal. Maude also writes sonnets about the things that inspire her. Maude is a poet who writes about suffering and things with a broken heart. Christina wrote three poems that were included in this book, she wrote, Song, Three Nuns, and Symbols. Religious issues are included in this book because of the issues in Christina's life with being moved around to church to church and changing religions constantly. The main conflict in Maude is how she cannot be ladylike and how she has huge poetic achievements. Like Christina, Maude is torn between pride and her work. Maude is a very short book with only 81 pages of large text. Rossetti wrote the book because Maude is very similar in Rossetti’s life. Some say that the book is pretty much a semi-autobiographical portrait of
