Christine de pizan was a writer. In 1398 her husband died and she was left to take care of her 3 children, a niece and her mother. After that, she had to learn to live differently and she became the first women in Europe to make a living off of writing. She became very well known and she began writing prose and poems to the court and in return they would send her money. Christine eventually started making more money, enough so she could pull herself out of debt and make a better life for her and her family. She could write to specific audiences and they would help her build popularity and partons. Partons are people who give financial or other support to other people, industries or organizations.
