Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy 1451, he was a map maker and a sailor in his forties, navigator and colonizer, and Genoese explorer. Columbus had many motivations and completed many voyages across the Atlantic Ocean. “You can never cross the ocean until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.” Many people when asked what their opinion on what kind of person Christopher Columbus was they would respond with negative comments. Although those people’s perspectives were negative not all people see him as a villain. He was said to be a hero because he brought positive effects economically, socially, and politically.
Christopher change history completely when he discovered the New World. ¨Following the light of the sun, we left the old world.¨ He was the first European to go to the New World and he allowed the period of major colonization to start. This caused many important effects to happen. The most important effect that happened because of the discovery of the New World was the creation of the United States. When Christopher Columbus found the New World he started the development of European Colonization which led to the United Sates being created. The New World had introduced Europe to America and all of its people. That led to wealth and power to Spain and other European countries and to the people already living there the Europeans brought new hardships to them. The New World also meant to people new opportunities. “Tomorrow morning before we depart, I intend to land and see what can be found in the neighborhood.”
¨By prevailing over all obstacles and distractions, one may unfailingly arrive at his chosen goal or destination.¨ Columbus led a total of four expansions to the New World during his lifetime. He discovered several Caribbean islands, South and Central mainlands, and the Gulf of Mexico, but even then he never accomplished his original goal which was to create a western ocean route that lead to the great cities of Asia. That route was supposed to be a water route from Europe to Asia.
Christopher Columbus is remembered and always will be a daring explorer who transformed the New World, he made so many economic, political, and social positive effects that eventually changed history so much making it what it is today because of Columbus we have America.
One social effect brought by Christopher Columbus discovery was religion. People acted more differently and it affected their lives. It affected their lives in the way that there was emotional reaction, general approval, and personal issues. ¨More than 500 years have passed since Columbus landed in the Bahamas. Both Europe and the Americas have changed dramatically since.¨ Things drastically changed after and the New World was influenced by Christopher Columbus legacy. People accepted the colonization that was going on and generally approved of the Americans into the New World. Christopher Columbus and his people brought goods such as tobacco and pineapple and the Natives were introduced to the new foods brought to them to their islands like rice, bread, bananas, olives, and coffee. Another thing brought into the New World was animals of all kinds like, cows, pigs, and chickens.
“So tractable, so peaceable are these people that I swear to your Majesties there is not in the world a better nation. They love their neighbors as themselves, and their discourse is ever sweet and gentle and accompanied with a smile; and though it is true that they are naked, yet their manners are decorous and praiseworthy.” Another social effect was that Christopher Columbus was well accepted by the people. They all liked him because of the fact that he helped out in so many ways and brought many benefits into the New World. Many Americans still celebrate Christopher Columbus day because he was a role model to many of the people’s ancestors. People still remember him as the hero he was for discovering the New World and many more achievements. “There are many moments, towns, and states named for Columbus. Many people in the United States of America celebrate Columbus Day on the second Monday of every year.”
Christopher Columbus economically affected by buying careful with money and resources. The Columbian Exchange is one example because it is a period in which exchange of plants, animals and food between the New World and the Old World. This exchange impacted both social and cultural sides of the Atlantic.
Columbus also affected the world economically by opening up the world as a single economic unit. That made many benefits to the New World, it made it clear to the commentators that trade not just territorial ambition or confessional loyalty was a major motive now because of international relations. “Riches don’t make a man rich, they only make a man busier.”
“After your Highnesses ended the war of the Moors who reigned in Europe, and finished the war of the great city of Granada, where this present year [1492] on the 2nd January I saw the royal banners of Your Highnesses planted by force of arms on the towers of the Alhambra, which is the fortress of the said city, I saw the Moorish sultan issue from the gates of the said city, and kiss the royal hands of Your Highnesses …” Columbus wanted something of return for all his work, he demanded that is success is his venture then he must be raised to nobility awarded heredity titles of Admiral of Ocean Sea and viceroy of all lands discovered, also to be give some kind of percentage for commission on all trade with the new lands. This was Columbus agreement with King and Queen who didn’t accept this deal but later on accepted it because he might be able to discover some islands way beyond the Azore Islands that were very valuable as a new trading territory. The King and Queen had no other better choice than accepting it because it benefitted them.
That leading to how Christopher Columbus affected the New World politically. It affected it politically by dealing with the laws, government, and the treaties etc. The Government changed because eventually the entire Western Hemisphere came under the ostensible control of the European government rule.
Even though half of Christopher Columbus journeys ended in disaster, he made many accomplishments and discoveries that helped shaped what America is today. He was a hero in many people’s lives because of the fact that he brought over from the Old World to the New World many resources that helped people and made people’s lives better. Religion is what helped him out most to succeed socially, he believed he was chosen by God to complete his voyages so that got him more motivated to actually try and succeed because he wanted to please God. “The sea will grant each man new hope. The sleep brings dreams of home.”
Christopher Columbus contributed in many more economic, social, and political effects that affected positively his journey. The first journey was August 3 1492 which was when he sailed with his three boats. The second voyage September 24 1493, where je carrying 1,200 men and the supplies to establish permanent colonies in the New World. The third voyage was May 30 1498 where it was his third trip to the New World.
Those voyages made a huge positive effect on America, politically, economically, and socially. Thanks to Christopher Columbus our ancestors had an easier life because of the resources Christopher Columbus brought to the New World and all the help he gave them but also all the help our ancestors gave Christopher Columbus.
