Christopher Columbus was one of the most important explorers in the Age of Discovery. He was born in Italy and he made many voyages all around the world as a young man. Columbus had a goal which was to sail to India by sailing west through the Atlantic Ocean, not sailing around Africa like previous explorers. Columbus landed in one of the islands of the Bahamas. He then sailed south and thought that he had landed in Asia, which was really Cuba. Magellan was born in Portugal and wanted to go on a journey to reach the Moluccas. He got five ships from the King of Spain. Magellan made many stops and explored many places around the world. He discovered the Philippines for Europe and although he didn’t survive his journey, his crew made the first trip around the world. Magellan’s trip further proved the theory that the Earth was a sphere and that the Indian Ocean was connected to another ocean.
