Charles Thomas Close, better known as Chuck close, was born on July 5th, 1940, in Monroe, WA with his parents, Leslie and Mildred Close. When he was young, he had struggled at reading and
writing, due to dyslexia, (His learning disability wasn’t ) that hadn’t been fully diagnosed at the time, though, his teachers were impressed when it came to doing art or school projects. Not being able to read and/or write, this caused Chuck to not do great in school, Although, as time passed, and as he got much older, he had gotten diagnosed with severe dyslexia.
Not only did Chuck have severe dyslexia, but he also had face blindness. Face blindness is where your right fusiform gyrus, a part of the brain that appears to coordinate, or control the neural systems that control facial perception and memory. Or simply put, to have an inability to recognize faces. Though, suddenly in 1988, Chuck close had a rupture in his spinal artery, causing him to be almost paralized. Thus causing many rounds of Physical Therapy, though, this didn’t stop him from creating art.
By getting through those difficult times, Chuck close grew with what he had, and chose to create his own type of art in his own way. He had made a mechanical arm piece to help him paint and create art. If it wasn’t for art, he wouldn’t be where he is now.
