It examines whether or not cigarette smoking is associated with the risk of completed suicide. In this study, the researchers professionally used PubMed and EMbase databases to search for relevant studies by searching the related terms, such as “smoking”, “suicide”, and “prospective”. In this meta-analysis study, 15 full publications of prospective cohort studies involving 2395 cases among 1,369,807 participants were considered and used. In this article, it states that “there are approximately 600 ingredients in cigarettes. When burned, they create more than 7,000 chemicals. At least 69 of these chemicals are known to cause cancer, and many are poisonous”. This article also gives a fact that cigarette smoking greatly increased the risk of cancers (especially lung cancer), heart disease, respiratory system diseases, and stroke. Also, it shows that cigarette smoking caused more than 450,000 deaths every year in the United States. This article can be useful for my future project because it provides an overview of cigarette smoking. It also gives people a better understanding of the basic information about cigarette smoking. I personally think that people need to know how cigarette smoking can affect their health in order to prevent or quit smoking
