1 Introduction
This paper reviews the significance of creativity and innovative management with regards to Tesco Plc, UK.
2 History of Creativity and Innovative
The company was founded by Jack Cohen in 1919. The business started with the selling of surplus groceries in East End, London, 1999. The stall was set up by him from the demob money worth GBP 30 which he got when he left the Royal Flying Corp. The profit which Jack Cohen made on first day of his GBP 4 sale was GBP 1 (Tesco, 2012). Within short span of five years, i.e. by 1924, he introduced the first product of the company, Tesco Tea. The name Tesco came from two names: ‘Tes’ from TE Stockwell who was the partner in tea supplier firm and ‘Co’ from Cohen. In 1929 the first store was opened in Burnt Oak, Edgware. The company then bought a plot in Edmonton, London to build warehouse and headquarter of the company. (Tesco, 2012)
1 Process of Creative and Innovative Management in Tesco
Due to globalization, innovation and creativity has become essential elements of competitiveness. It means that the organizations must adapt to the changing markets and technologies (Lawson & Samson, 2001). Luecke & Katz (2003) suggested a model which turns the creative and innovative idea into a commercial product. It rests on two pillars: invention and exploitation. The former includes the idea, its evaluation, recognizing the opportunity in market and relevant processes whereas the latter involves the development and commercialization. This is shown in the figure below:
