Cima and her father are isolated from the rest of the world. They do not have contact with other humans and forgot what it was like to talk with other people. When someone does not have contact with other people outside their home, it can change them into a very different person. Cima and her father got along fairly well in their little house, despite all they had been through since their world changed. The circumstances that they had to prevail only brought them closer to one another and they both knew that they had to stick together at all costs. Hig and Bangley knew they had to stick together too but because their personalities were so different, they often did not, which led to many disagreements between them. Hig had been hunting since before the epidemic struck the country but he did not like to kill anything if he didn’t absolutely have to.
