Cinderella Folk Tale Comparison

We all know Cinderella because of Walt Disney. The original folk tales from five cultures tells the real story of Cinderella. As of today, I probably only seen Cinderella maybe once or twice. Reading the folk tales gave me a better perspective of the real true story behind Cinderella. Each folk tale had similarities and each one had their differences. If I had to choose one of these folk tales that would be perfect for children to read, it would be Charles Perrault version. Some people might say violence in a book makes the story more interesting and gets the reader more into it. But remember we are reading a story to a child, which we do not want them to get scared and get them into violence stories at a young age. Perrault version of “Cinderella” is the only folk tale that is not violent. Each folk tale had one violent scene like in Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm version; the stepsisters had their eyes pluck out by pigeons. In the Chinese version, the stepmother and stepsisters were killed by flying stones. In Perrault versions, the stepsisters got treated nicely by Cinderella were they got matched with two great lords of the court.
Every version had a different grant wisher. The African version had a frog that swallowed her and spit her back out to give her a new appearance. The frog also spit out some new clothes and shoes. This scene might gross-out the children and the children might not find a frog appropriate to grant out wishes. Perrault version of a grant wisher is an appropriate for children because most children could relate to having fairy godmother in their life, their grandmother. Children will think the godmother is Cinderella grandmother because most grandmothers using grant their grandchildren with presents or try to help them out , even getting them out of trouble with their
