Sherman' s early works began by taking on a certain vagueness in meaning, with her series "Untitled Film Stills" (1977-1980), where she depicted herself as different stereotypical women of her time. She aimed at leaving the viewer with an uncertainty as how to decipher her intentions, eluding her form having to title her artworks for a dramatic effect.
