Cinematic Arts Personal Statement: Bones, Stone And Human Evolution

Cinematic Arts Personal Statement It has long been obvious to me that my personality is quite different from most people's. My attention is drawn to places that others find uninteresting. And because I pride myself on expanding my knowledge of the world, science has always been one of my favorite subjects. I recently took a course called Bones, Stone and Human Evolution, about the origins of humanity. It became one of my most beloved courses. It is incredible to think about how all humans that live on Earth today, despite the discord that so often divides us, come from the same group of primates that explored the outskirts of Africa some 40,000 years ago. I also love to learn about the vastness of space. I find it empowering to absorb as much knowledge and as many opinions as possible. I consider myself a polymath.
I may listen to the soundtrack of a film, like “Night Fight” from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. As in those special moments under the stars in Joshua Tree, this is when inspiration for a film will strike. In many cases an imagined scene will be perfectly synced to a certain song, for I find that some of the best moments in cinema are those that perfectly blend music and imagery. Quentin Tarantino understands the craft of melding story with music, which is one reason his films are so effective. Some of my favorite works that employ this approach are Reservoir Dogs (Stuck in the Middle With You scene), Apocalypse Now (intro), Moonrise Kingdom (ending), Fight Club (entering the bar), and Up (intro). Though I have not yet been able to render such idyllic multimedia visions, the exact shots, movements, camera work, art design, costume design, dialogue, composition and framing lie in my head, waiting to be realized.
