Circle Time Observation
On the morning of April 7, 2017 at approximately 0830 myself (Tranay Gourdine-Watkins) and another caregiver (Mandy Lunceford) were conducting circle time. A parent walked in with her child as we were singing a song. The parent was acknowledged by myself and the other caregiver. Once we were done singing, the parent walked over to me and handed me her child. As she was giving me the child she gave me a rundown of the prior night the child had at home. She was also letting me know how we would be able to contact her if we needed to. Once the parent was done she said her goodbyes and the child became upset. As I was comforting the child the trainer (Cheryl Freeman) walked into the room and come directly over to the child and myself. Once …show more content…
Mrs. Freeman than goes on to say “I know I just crossed her path!” After she made that statement she (Mrs. Freeman) told me “I need to be doing a circle time activity.” I than said to Mrs. Freeman “We were already doing a circle time, I had to stop to talk with the parent.” Mrs. Freeman than said “I am your trainer and you need to be doing circle time.” Before myself and the other caregiver (Mandy Lunceford) could start singing or doing anything Mrs. Freeman begans to yell at me. “I am your trainer and you need to be doing something for circle time.” She repeated this statement several times. I than asked Mandy Lunceford if she could take over circle time because I felt myself getting angry. As Mandy Lunceford was taking over singing “Bringing Home A Baby Bumble Bee” Mrs Freeman continued to yell at me “I am your trainer and you need to be doing circle time.” I than removed myself from the rug, walked over to the phone, called up to the front desk and asked if someone could come sit in the room with Mandy Lunceford because I needed to take a break from the situation. At this point Mrs. Freeman is yelling “I am your trainer and I need to talk to you.” I said “not right now Mrs. Cheryl I need some time to collect my thought.” At this time I opened the room because I seen management (Miranda). As Miranda was coming in I proceeded

Throughout this reflective account i will refer to the individual I was working with as Gloria. I have not used her real name throughout this piece to protect her identity and to ensure that I am maintaining confidentiality. “You must respect people’s rights to confidentiality” (NMC 2013) Gloria is a 74 year old lady who lives at the residential care home at which I am currently on placement Gloria is under the Adults with Incapacity Scotland Act 2000 due to a diagnosis of Dementia. She is mobile with the aid of a Zimmer frame and is still as independent as her health allows. She requires the assistance of 1 carer for most activities of daily living. After breakfast I offered to take Gloria to the toilet as she had requested to go to the bathroom during her meal but was told by a care assistant that she would have to wait until after her meal. The carer told me the care home operated “protected meals times” and this was the reason that Gloria could not go to the toilet during her meal. I felt competent under supervision to assist Gloria with using the toilet. One should never accept a task delegated to them unless they feel competent and confident in carrying out the task that has been asked of them. The NMC Code of Conduct states that “You must recognise and work within the limits of your competence” and “You must take part in appropriate learning and practice activities that maintain and develop your competence and performance.” (NMC 2013)…

At this point in the conversation Pamela raised her voice and began to discuss issues that she felt she needed assistance with. Pamela indicated that she felt a lack of assistance from SC so SC began to describe the role/responsibility of PCA vs. informal support. Despite SC attempting to diffuse Pamela’s strong feelings, Pamela continued to raise her voice and express great frustration. During this part of the conversation Pamela stated that her mother needs more personal care hours and SC asked if pa had any change in functioning. Pamela reported no changes, therefore SC emphasized the previous plan of including an agency aide or a second friend/family member to act as the DCW on evenings/weekends by utilizing a portion of the hours already in the ISP in order to facilitate respite for Pamela in order to prevent her from becoming further overwhelmed or burnt out. Pamela got more upset and started pointing her figure at SC yelling “I’m not your slave; I’m not your slave”. At this point in the visit, SC left the home so as to reschedule another visit in the near future with POA/DOC/granddaughter, as Pamela was not able to provide necessary information due to her emotional state. Pa did not appear at risk in any way. SC left and called SCS and left a detailed message of what…

Instead, I would make a visit to Jane's daycare facility to ensure that they are aware of this incident and see if they have reported the incident themselves. If for some reason they know nothing about what has happened, by going directly to the daycare to follow up with the facility management will give them a chance to handle it more effectively. Once Management is able to investigate the situation with the facility's staff then they will be able to take the steps necessary to remove the individual responsible for hitting Jane. By making sure the incident has been made apparent to the daycare facility this does a lot more good. Considering that we know exactly where the mark came from, there is no need for an intense investigation by other agencies since we know exactly where the abuse happened. It allows the daycare to be made aware of what is going on in their program and how the children of the daycare are being treated by the staff. This gives the facility the opportunity to fix and handle the problem accordingly without having to involve any other agencies. Even if management fails to appropriately handle the situation, then the daycare's human resources department can be notified or it can be reported to child protective services. Overall, this situation needs to be addressed within the daycare, and if needed this situation can be brought up to someone with greater authority to ensure it will be taken care…

Staff and childcare providers i.e. child-minders must be trained to recognise any signs of abuse and any concerns directed to the childcare setting will then be treated with absolute confidentiality .. Any concern is discussed with the child if they are of appropriate age and with the parents/carer, the childcare provider would then hope to get their agreement in order to make a referral to social services via carrying out a Common Assessment Framework (CAF), unless it is felt the discussion would place the child at risk of harm. If, after this discussion there are still concerns then the CPLO would make a referral to the Children’s team and carry out a CAF without the consent of the parent/carer. If a child.…

My child ends up coming down the tunnel slide, crying his eyes out....and through his tears, he told me the younger child had hit him with the belt, 5 Times, on his head. One of the two women (I assume the child with the belt, was with Grandma, and Mom), came into the playground, and took the belt away, but she still let the child continue to play. My son and I left the playground, and I went to find a manager to say what had just happened, before we left the restaurant. I assumed they would like to know, that a child was running around with a belt, hitting other children, in the playground. A male manager came over to me (I don't remember his name). I told him what had just happened...my son got hit in the head 5 Times, by a child running around with a belt, in the playground. What response did I get? "Well, I can't go policing that playground, and the kids in it!" and "We can't do anything about that." Really?? He/The manager eventually Begrudgingly told me that he would go speak with the adults. I was Not asking him to "police the playground"! I was expecting a "That's too bad that happened!…

Two months ago I was asked to attend a Family Forum meeting at my current place of work. These provide an opportunity for friends/relatives to come together with several staff members (including a manager) every month to discuss any developments within the service, or any other business affecting them and their family members. Once everything on the agenda was covered, I took my cue to highlight the topic of activities within the Nursing Home. This was a good opportunity to ask family members if they had any new requests for activities for their relative living within the Nursing Home. Almost instantly the manager chairing the meeting replied that she thought there was more than enough being done in…

Description: Service-user has gone to social club for adults with learning disabilities. The event was arranged by care managers and staff were ‘encouraged’ in supporting the service-users in attending. The service-user was reluctant to get out of the car, and when we were in the club, the person was tense and restless. The event was a disco with a live band; the music was very loud and had flashing lights. The event was very busy with lots of people dancing, shouting and yelling. There was nowhere quieter where the service-user could sit and watch. There were many people coming up to the service-user trying to encourage them to chat or dance. On return, the service-user continued to appear restless. It resulted in the service-user hitting a staff member.…

Mary (changed name) was admitted with right cerebrovascular accident (CVA) and was now just waiting for residential placement. One of the side effects left over from her stroke was that she had a drop-foot for which she had a splint and a walking stick; she had declined to use a frame. Mary was one of the patients on my team so I was getting to know her quite well during my first two weeks on the ward. I was working with another patient when I saw Mary twist on her ankle and try to steady herself on her stick. This had the effect of spinning her round and she fell to the floor onto her left hip. I ran to help, she was in a lot of pain and slight shock, I called down the ward for help several members of staff came to help saying "do this" and "do that" all at the same time, I was quite over whelmed. Mary was rolled back and forth onto a sling, hoisted up and placed on her bed, all the while I was looking after her head, I did not know what else to do so I talked to her to calm her down, which was difficult due to all the commotion. On initial examination the senior nurse on duty said it looked like she had broken her femur, which was later confirmed. Her residential placement was cancelled and she was transferred to stepping hill.…

Translational motion is the aspect in which a body moves from a specific point to the next. This can be in terms of objects, molecules or atoms. This kind of motion normally takes place in a straight line for instance bullet which is fired by a gun. The object in motion does not change by turning on its axis for it travels in a straight line. Any slight change or rotation can cause the object to change direction in general making it not move toward the specified direction.…
