Cirque Du Freak Movie Vs Book
Essay on Cirque Du Freak

By: hp

This book project is on The Cirque du Freak. Cirque du Freak was an amazing book that was made into a movie in 2009. The use of this essay is to tell you the differences between the movie and the book. The book and the movie were not really the same at all.

The first difference is the movie is not just called Cirque du Freak it is called Cirque du Freak the Vampires assistant. In the book Darren Shan the main character narrates the book while in the movie it is some omniscient person. In the book Darren has three friends Steve and two others, while in the movie his only best friend is Steve.

In the next parts of the movie Darren and Steve are arguing when a dark colored limo drives by and drops a flyer, that flyer just happens to be for the Cirque du Freak. While in the book one of his other friends shows the flyer to Darren and Steve that’s when they decide they want to go. The next difference is how they get the tickets in the book Steve goes to the theatre before the show and gets the tickets but can only get two, in the movie Darren and Steve get the tickets right at the Cirque du Freak.

A major difference is the character Johnny. In the book we heard of him, in the movie we met him. Johnny is Bella’s love interest. In the story we knew very little about Johnny. We knew he had a reading handicap and he was an usher at a movie theater. In the movie Johnny and Bella take a walk in the park in the afternoon. Bella didn’t ask to be introduced to his parents because she’s never been to his house in the book. In the play write everything Bella and Johnny did was at night and after a movie. Bella also did more things in the movie she wasn’t as clueless as she was in the book.…

Freak the Mighty and The Mighty. The Mighty is the movie while the other is the book. Both the film and the book are about two boys who bond and have a unique friendship. There are many scenes from the movie that differ from the book. Those stages include Tony D.(Blade) who throws a basketball at Kevin, a restaurant scene that was not included in the book.…

Some differences were that in the movie Charlie seemed like he had temper issues. Whenever Charlie thought that someone was making fun of him he would start arguing. In the book Charlie was nice throughout the story and when he found out how people treated him. Charlie’s job was different too. In the book Charlie worked in a Plastic factory and in the movie Charlie worked in a bakery. In the movie Charlie also went to Chicago for a presentation of the surgery and to show the results of it.…

While these similarities show what these pieces have incommon Freak the Mighty and The Mighty still have differences that make them distinctive. Although the characters have the same names, I have got to say there appearance was definitely incorrect. In the book Max was said to be 7 feet tall, while Kevin was said to be 2 feet tall. In the movie Max was about 6 feet and Kevin was the height of an average 6th grader at Eldorado K-8 ( about 4”6’). Kevin was supposed to have blond hair and blue eyes ( the movie gave him brown eyes and brown hair) while Maxes appearance was not clear in the book. Additionally, in the book, Kevin and Max seemingly lived in suburbia while the movie gave the impression they lived in much more of a city. For example, the old testaments seemed much bigger and better-looking than described in the book ( broken toys and ragged and dirty children who seemed a little broken themselves). The minor problem in plot detail is a third difference. In the movie, Kevin is apparently Max’s LD…

Another difference between the movie and the book are the animals that attacked Brian while he was in the wilderness. In the movie the bear attacked Brian and destroyed his shelter and he wrestled and injured the bear. Also in the movie Brian got attacked by a raccoon. While in the book Brian sees the bear but doesn’t have any physical contact with her. In the book Brian got attacked by a moose and a skunk. In this event I discovered some differences but also some similarities like the wolf, porcupine and the mosquitoes attack.…

One last difference in the movie was close to the end Tris was caught by the bad guys. In the book she was put in a jail cell, and was to be experimented on. The experiment was to see if she reacted to her worst fear the way she did in her fear simulation, or if she completely panicked. In the movie she was captured, but she was brought outside to be shot. This was a big difference from the book and the…

The difference in the movie and the book are that in the movie there were no wild dogs attacking Francois and Perrault’s camp, there was no Dolly, Buck did not have the dreams, and Buck’s fight with the moose was in the movie. Spitz also killed Curly in the movie and not in the book. The difference in the book and the movie are that in the book there was no fight between John Thornton and Black Burton, for the bet the money and distance were wrong and it was in mud not snow. There was no fight included with Buck and the wolves. Nobody took Buck in the movie and hit him with a club.…

All people from Texas ride horses, white guys can’t dance and Asians are very good at math. Some stereotypes are humorous but others for example, one dangerous pre-notion is that African-Americans are more likely to become professional athletes then acquire a real job like a doctor or lawyer. This is an illusion portrayed by the coaches and teachers who promote athleticism over academics. Plato’s “The Allegory of the cave” shows us that “chains” and “shadows” keeps one from being enlightened, just like these young African-Americans. Henry Louis Gates Jr’s “Delusions of Grandeur” tells how this illusion “chains” down the African-American youth to a mindset of professional sports. Gates illuminates the devastating effects of the “shadows” being cast and “chains” being imposed on African-American minds keeping them in a “cave” of ignorance and keeping them unenlightened to the possibilities around them.…

One thing in particular that the book does much better is making use of complex metaphors and themes, such as: the river for life, and oneness with nature, that string themselves together as you turn each page of the book, while in the movie the metaphors and symbolism are represented in a much different way through picture. In the book, both themes regarding the river are very vivid and clear, as they use strong imagery of nature to draw pictures in the minds of the readers. In the movie both themes are represented and referred to much less because of the lack of narration.…

Whenever you read a book and then go watch the movie, most of the time they don’t follow the same events in the same order. Just like in the myth “Perseus” and the movie, Clash of the Titans, the event are not all the same and some of the causes of the events are not the same either. Different things happen in the movies that are not even close to some of the things in the myth. These differences can either make the story better or just make it less interesting.…
