Sometimes the production of art is related to the artist’s political convictions. To what extent is this demonstrated by the founders of El Teatro Campesino? In El Teatro Campesino the artist’s political convictions are expressed and demonstrated in the different skits they perform to give a better understanding to the people in the community of that social movement.…

In this paper I am going to talk about the 1997 movie Selena as it has a strong focus on the singing career of a developing Mexican American singer in the early 1990's. She experienced many hardships from fans that did not admire the fact she primarily spoke English. She soon embraced her culture and developed loyal devotees to her music and that in the end was what motivated her to grow in her course.…

Fletcher Guitars, a guitar-producing company based out of Los Angeles, is interested in increasing production within their Spanish sister company Guitarras Dominguez. The CEO of Fletcher Guitars decided to send Adam Wainwright, a potential high end manager in the company, to Spain to influence the increase production. His task is to convince the owner and founder of the sister company, Salvador Dominguez, that they need to increase their production to meet the standards of the rising demand in Latin music. However, the problem is that Salvador’s company places quality over quantity in everything they produce. Unfortunately, Adam’s technical mindset conflicts with Salvador’s traditional Spanish mindset. The Spanish culture is more relaxed, which causes them to work at a slower pace. Though they work at a slower pace, Salvador’s reputation for quality guitars has kept his business alive to this point. The road block in Adam’s task to increase production is Salvador’s stubbornness to not lower his standards of craftsmanship to meet Fletcher’s demand.…

Cantinflas and Felipe Cantu style of entertainment singlehandedly contributed to the rise of the Actos. In reading this chapter, I was shocked to learn that the actors in the company refused to work from scripts. They believed in the power of memory and how that carried the message further than any piece of paper could. The naturalness and flow of movement resonated with the people. “Total body involvement was a performance “language” to which Chicana/o and Mexicana/o audiences were accustomed. To these audiences, understanding a performance meant a great deal more than a semantic decoding.” (Broyles-Gonzalez 18) This style of entertainment worked because there was a social contract between the actors and audience members. It was expected to receive an immediate response from the crowd. Whether it was positive or negative, feedback was given and very crucial in continuing the performance.…

Rodriguez paints for the readers a dreary present, one in which there is a great divide and disconnect that exists between each member of his family, colored by a sense of guilt, shown through selection of detail, narrative structure, and punctuation. The divide between the parents and their children becomes most apparent when the children rush to leave in their “expensive foreign cars”, the sister in her…

Almost every night the people whistle and chant to the music that is starting to play at the large arena. The initiation starts with a loud thundering drum. The trumpet joins with the core melody with the great high pitched voices. The projection and the distinctiveness of the Spanish voices make it unique. The first words are only to inject fun and dance. Once the singers step the first step to the dance, all the brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments whirl together. The sharp upbeats leap the body to move its joints. Both genres of music have two ways of sound: they delight the ear with tremendous rhythm, but as the night flows, their passive, sweet melodies join soul mates. The sounds that pass through Mexico makes us live so vividly and happy. Despite the sounds of the instruments, the auditory the lyrics make is special. Most lyrics are inspirational music. The voice unit the people through words, experiences, and advice. From lost wars in the past to independence, to rising and falling or even to love songs, it engages the public’s…
