This was a strategic move to allow the company to continue its stellar reputation for performance and customer satisfaction. and software applications that can be provided to devices on demand. (Turban, & Volonino, 2011, p.48) The cloud infrastructure is particularly useful to Volvo as it is now able to gather critical data from its vehicles to assess vehicle performance. The collection and analysis of such data allows Volvo to identify patterns and problems that they can now correct early on in the manufacturing process. This will help eliminate the need for vehicle recalls and maintain customer safety and satisfaction. The Volvo brand is a brand of reliability, and Volvo makes every effort to continue that legacy.
Volvo’s forward thinking has given them an advantage. By compiling data from various vehicle sources they are now able to monitor vehicles and identify safety issues very early in the vehicle lifecycle. This data also allows Volvo to asses its cars and provide software upgrades to vehicles to ensure that all Volvo vehicles operate to its maximum potential. Having the added benefit of software upgrades allows customers to feel a sense of safety and security when operating their vehicles. customers. The use of real time data keeps the company at the top of its game. Data is streamed to a data warehouse where Volvo can analyze and utilize the data immediately or store it for later use. This is one way the company continues to provide excellent customer service. They are always on top of the vehicle information to better assess and anticipate the customer’s needs. The use of cloud technology and a data warehouse has enabled Volvo to keep innovation, performance and safety at the core of the company structure.
The collection of large quantity of data allows Volvo to continue to improve and excel into higher levels of technological advancement. Data is the way the company manages its customers, designs, features, and manufacturing. Big data is a critical element to the company’s continued success. This is how Volvo will maintain a competitive advantage and continue to exceed consumer expectations. While Volvo continues on its path of innovation and advancement they move forward to build brand loyalty through quality vehicles, high safety standards and exceptional customer service. When brand loyalty is achieved, a customer will pay for the quality and satisfaction they receive from the brand. They are also likely to refer customers to the brand creating a new customer base and increased profits.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the use of cloud and Big data are necessary elements to the sustained success of the Volvo car company. While there are many ways to gather and analyze data this is one of the most cost efficient and rapid formats to data compiling and analysis in real-time. The ability to anticipate and forecast vehicle and customer needs is a critical advantage that Volvo has. I personally can’t wait to see what they do next.
