Charles Foster Kane was a man of an egotistical behavior. Since he was robbed of his child hood, he never fully received the love and skipped out on the upbringing of being a child. This in turn stuck with him as he grew, believing that he could buy the love of the people through money and manipulation. He pursuit of power and control impacts his life negatively as he pushes everyone that loves him away like Susan. Kane evokes a sense of sympathy, as the viewer can feel sorry for the way he acts. Since the viewer can tell that he was never fully loved, it is hard for him to show that since he was never fully given it. She plays a major role in Charles life and I believe her to be a round character in this story. Kane seems to fall in love with Susan because he is mistakenly believed that Susan will love him for his charm. As their relationship continues, she is forcefully being transformed into some prize that Charles wants people to see her as. As she realizes that her identity is being stolen from her, she is driven mad and the only way she can save herself from this is to leave Charles. Susan plays a symbolic role in Charles life. When he met Susan, he marriage ceased, his ambitions for Governor failed and he lost the respect of the people. Everything he fought for was gone. And Susan’s departure from his life represented the time his mother sent him away. Mr. Bernstein is probably Kane’s only friend and loyal employee. Throughout the whole movie, Mr. Bernstein is one of the few who remain prominent in Kane’s life. He doesn’t care about Kane’s ego or attempts to control everything, but only wants for him to be happy in life.
