“We’ll always be ready, because we will always be there.” These are lyrics from a song called Citizen/Soldier, which is performed and owned by the band 3 Doors Down. Members of this alternative rock band include: lead singer Brad Arnold, lead guitarist Christopher Henderson, bass player and back up vocalist Matt Roberts, and drummer Todd Harrell. This song was released as a single in November of 2007, and hit the sound waves of the radio in December of 2008. The song was released in conjunction with a recruitment campaign by the United States National Guard. The Citizen/Soldier music video was released to movie theaters to be played in previews throughout the United States, it was put on the front page of the official National Guard website, and a snap shot of the music video was put on the cover of their next album that came out, which was called “3 Doors Down.” The Citizen/Soldier promotion was also featured on the #88 Hendrick Motorsports car, which was driven by Dale Earnhardt, Jr. during the 2008 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race on May 17, 2008. Footage from the music film was mostly shot at Camp Roberts, which is an Army National Guard Base on the California Central Coast. The beach scenes were filmed at Momo Bay. When we were assigned this essay, this particular song jumped out at me to write about because of a few reasons. First of all, I’m a very patriotic person. I have the utmost respect for each, every, and any individual who decides to risk their life in a foreign country in which they’ve never been to before, to protect people that they’ve never met before. I don’t respect any person who will disrespect the red, white, and blue that flies high and proud each day. The second reason that this song was one that jumped out at me was because I have numerous friends that have just recently made the decision to join in some branch of the National Guard. One of my best friends Oakley just recently shipped off to Georgia for his training camp,
