VALUES IN EDUCATION
-This program relates 7 core values that are all related to the body, which are used as reference points (i.e. eyes and ear-respect, mouth-integrity, heart-compassion). Contains a variety of resources focusing on integrity, respect, ethics and character values. Lessons taught via DVD and supplemented with activities. Teacher’s guides are contained with each volume.
-Required resources are the package materials, which include one coordinator’s guide, 2 teacher guides, a CD of 52 different character lessons and a training CD.
-Cost is $525.00 per resource set.
-Implementation times vary depending upon how quickly the facilitator can learn the program and distribute the knowledge to teachers.
-Teacher training is available with two guides per set. Seminars are also available via online content to further teacher knowledge.
-This program claims it is built upon 20 years of research and used in over 1000 schools. It has received National Awards including a $25,000 Milken Family Foundation Award for developing value-centered people.
WISESKILLS
-This program “was developed to teach young people critical traits and principles summarized in the concept of wisdom” and the program describes it as “Making good choices for myself and for others”. It uses the strategies of modeling, teaching and reinforcing. It utilizes role-playing, activities, creative writing and songs among others.
-Required resources are the classroom package sold in either a K-2 set or a grades 3-5 set that includes all instructional materials, reward certificates, visual displays, etc.
-Cost is $166.95 (K-2) and $94.95 (Grades 3-5). The price is per classroom kit, volume discounts are available and they all come with a free 30-day trial.
-Implementation looks quick with lessons seeming very simple to jump right in to for teachers and students. There is also a free schoolwide implementation kit including training for staff and administrators.
-There is additional teacher training available via online resources.
