It is the right of the people to alter or abolish a government when it does not meet the need of the people. From 1848-1920, thousand of women marched in the streets, endured hunger strikes and submitted to arrest and gail in order to gain the right to vote. (Starr). Civil disobedience has proved to be effective in the past, the civil right movement included sit-ins and illegal marches in order to protest for the right of African-Americans. Rosa Parks protested the law that African-Americans had to give up their bus seat for white people. During a time when violence was a major threat, civil disobedience allowed a group to voice one’s opinion about a certain issue. Civil disobedience also occurs with forest demonstration, sit-ins and blockades in order to protest what is dear to a group of people. (Starr) All of these demonstrations have had for objective to express a concern and act express that concern without involving violence.
